The Waiting For Retina Mbp To Arrive In Thailand Thread

My page says 3-5 weeks. It's a long wait.

I've wanted an SSD laptop for years now, and I'm finally going to get one. I work full time on my laptop so it's quite a big deal for me.

I initially placed my order on the first day it was possible; I ordered the base MBPR. However, I was going over the decision a thousand times in my head, until I realized that a 256gb HD just wasn't enough for the project I'm working on in the immediate future.

So I canceled that order and placed a new one June 16 for the 2.7ghz i7 /16gb ram / 512gb HD. They completed their credit card confirmation checking and the order has been approved June 19. Now it says the Superdrive is being prepared for shipment.

My late 2009 (2.5 ghz dual-core) MBP is suddenly feeling quite sluggish as I notice the things that I know will be sped-up with the new computer.

Who else is waiting for their new dream laptop to arrive?

I was a bit slow to order as I did not stay up to watch the keynote, did it the day after, 3-5 weeks as well...

I dont think for a second that this will lag, i find it highly unlikely that all the reviews would miss such a thing... Fps i could not care less about... Its a dream machine for sure, quad i7 and ssd and 16gb in a slim 2kg package, best display, etc...

I still think it's a software issue...

"It turns out that Safari leverages Core Animation in Mountain Lion and more GPU accelerated as a result"

They did the same thing when OS X first came out - everyone was just shocked how the system would expend so many CPU cycles rendering eye candy - people were angry about it. Then they used hardware accelerated effects and it was all good.

Same thing is happening here - 2D performance has never been an issue with the old low res displays, and so it did not get optimized or even looked at. Now there's a reason to improve things, they'll do that... I think if an iPad can handle a 10" high res display then a MacBook Pro can easily handle a 15" one, it's all a matter of optimizing the software.

iStudio CM has the low end configuration in stock.

Not sure about high end but the sales guy ensured me that 16GB is BTO only & needs to be ordered... dam_n.

Thanks for the update. It's good to know that they're really making their way in to Thailand now.

The new Airs used to say 2-3 weeks, now they apparently ship immediately from the Apple Thailand Store.

My shipping status hasn't updated yet, it's still the same dates and still says 3-5 weeks.

Not seen any in BKK yet....

Did see a display model at istudio in Centralworld. Over heard the sales rep say they have stock arriving in about a week, but they have already been reserved.

They don't have display models in CM either - apparently they keep their stock for selling.

Mine hasn't moved up in delivery date either but it should arrive as early as next week! I am checking the order page constantly... :P

Ibeat at Emporium has the base Retina on display. They have just the one demo model, it's not for sale.

I got to test it out, and it's really nice. Super fast.

But the thing that struck me the most was the screen. I honestly didn't expect it to make much difference, especially since my eyesight isn't too wonderful. The screen is dazzling though, and after using it, the normal MBP screen looks kind of fuzzy and washed out.

This wait isn't easy.

There are a few floating about in stores. Yesterday istudio paragon had a 2.6ghz - gone today :(

a few istudios have 2.3 base models but not large quantities 1's and 2's yesterday

The one on display in ibeats emporium. If you select 1920x1200 then load of the verge website then u can see the laggy scrolling. its better at best for retina 1440x900 but still laggy compared to the same website scrolled on the adjacent macs.

Nice screen tho...

I am pretty sure also that ML will sort the lag. Also there seems to be a trend of scrolling lag mainly occurring on the 2.3ghz. Less reports on the 2.6/2.7 as the scrolling at the moment is cpu governed until ML

UFICON at the Mall has 1 2.3ghz in stock.

Mine arrived. Love the screen. It is awesome. The scrolling Lagginess is there compared to my previous mac's....

Role on ML GM and hope it is fixed. One other thing I noticed the key travel is somewhat less than previous generations (I presume because of the machine thickness).. However the travel does not feel as nice as my non rMBP.

Any questions on the new machine let me know.

^^ jealous!!! How did you get it so fast? I ordered it the day after the keynote - June 13th - and it's still in "processing items" state...

Specs?

Ordered from Apple HK online store. They were running at a week less delivery time than Thai store and a bit cheaper.

I got: 2.6ghz/16GB/512 and the mrs got a 2.3ghz/8gb/256 from the mall yesterday.

I do like it I really do. It is certainly their best mac ever.

I find myself torn between Best for Retina 1440 and 1920 more space. And constantly switching between them both using switchres x. I love both resolutions so not sure which final one will win.

BootCamp was a pain to install this morning. Need a USB Drive, Windows7.iso and download the bootcamp drivers. Or install from a external DVD drive if you have one.

Actually one thing that I was not expecting that blew me away was the speakers and sound quality. Amazing best I have ever heard on any laptop. Including those with Karmon speakers etc.

That's interesting, I didn't realize they shipped to Thailand. I'll have to consider that in the future.

And gratz on getting yours already.

Sadly they don't ship to Thailand. However if you do not have a HK or US address I would highly recommend shipito.com who have a office in HK and the US.

Very handy for US stores that don't ship internationally and HK Apple store online (Education Discount) look at the price difference from the Thai store....

How long it take for it to arrive? Noticed the HK store also has a bigger selection than Thailand as well some items not available here.

Depends when apple send the product.

Once it arrives shipito.com they can ship it to you in Thailand Next day delivery by Fedex or DHL.

Good know, will have to look into it next time.

Won't u incur customs fees in this case?

Laptops are import duty free. You will have to pay 7% VAT.

Bearing in mind that HK Apple store prices are significantly cheaper. Then on top of that you can order from the HK Apple online store education discount and get another 5% off the HK price or thereabouts.

However it might be cheaper to buy a return air asia flight BKK-HKG pick it up at shipito.com HK and fly back smile.png

I finally got a shipito account - didn't realize they have a HK office, wow, that's brilliant! :)

Price difference ok but you do need to pay additional shipping right? Plus $8 for shipito.

Yeah they said it's the best speakers they ever put in a laptop. Quite surprising as it seemed like Apple didn't really care too much about that in years past.

Well mine is promised to arrive either next week or the week after... interesting that HK Apple store is so much cheaper, I might plan a little trip to HK next time...

But if you use the HK education store the savings more than cover the shipping charge from shipito.com.

I am lucky in that I am in HK more or less every week so usually pick up from shipito.com office. Carmen there is awesome really helpful.

I use the US shipito.com address a lot, sometimes getting the CA warehouse to ship to the HK shipito.com office and pick up there since HK is tax/duty free zone especially if its a high value and high duty/vat item for Thailand.

Flights to BKKHK are really cheap and I imagine CMHK is not too bad either.

Not to mention Thailand Apple Store has dropped AMEX as a payment option - so annoying. Where as HK you can still pay AMEX.

Mountain Lion 10.8 GM fixes the scroll Lag in rMBP - Thank god.

No PowerNap feature tho on rMBP. Expecting last minute fix for that - maybe firmware upgrade

They just put a hold for the amount on my card - however, still in "processing". Argh. How long between putting a hold on the card+ the actual shipping? Well.. anyway should come this week or next.
