My only problem with Jazz is that it's essentially old dynamics which has been face lifted several times. Still a good car though. I recently bought my wife a City and it's great. Two gripes 1) Gear ratios are too high 2) Noisy on open road (maybe the tyres). Some people say the City is a Jazz with a boot.

Aren't Fiesta and Mazda the same car? Just some styling tweaks. If so, I would imagine it comes down to price, quality of dealership and service, and bang for your buck. Resale maybe worth considering. For some reason Ford aren't as well regarded as Mazda in Thailand.

The Fiesta and Mazda have similarities. It's the same basic car but he engine and transmittion differ. The Ford is technically more sophisticated with the 5 speed automatic. It's also more expensive. What the Mazda has going for it is more reliability with the proven four speed transmittion. I've always found the Mazda engine dispite only 100HP, to be more than enough. They're similar cars but went with the Mazda. Haven't had anything wrong with it in the first year. The 570k price included the first year insurance and other accessories. You won't get anything with the Jazz, including things like floor mats.

2 sat next to each other at a tent...

March 2010 Top Jazz with leather seats 670,000 baht

November 2011 Top Fiesta 1.6 Sport also with leather seats 670,000 baht

Jazz cost 6k more when new. only advantage buying 2nd hand can buy it today. drive away tomorrow.

Out of interest I bought a new Jazz when they 1st came into Thailand, then the top model was the i-DSi Sport, just over 600,000 baht, today they are still asking 420 - 450,000 for this model, 8 years old !! [part exchanged after 4 years, the new Jazz was lower and more difficult to get in so passed]

Yes the jazz is horrendously expensive, if the second hand dealers prices are anything to go by - they are selling for only a little less than a top model civic of the same vintage! Only those who buy second hand cant afford the down payment for a new one.

I really hate small cars, but I recently I had to rent a Honda Jazz and I was surprised:

Smooth drive, spacious inside, but the best was it hardly used any fuel at all, at least compared to my last car. I drove from Phuket to Chumpon, left South Phuket with a full tank, and by the time I was at Lamae, bit south of Chumpon, the fuel gauge was still on half full!!!! My previous car I would have had to fill up twice ..

Jazz is a nice car but is also a girly car.

I am 100 kg male(well last time i checked i was :) )and can not see myself getting into one of them giggle.gif

I have never owned a truck, until i moved to Thailand, NOW i will never own anything else but a truck, the space and comfort is simply awesome

If i had to chose out of 3 mentioned, i would probably go for Fiesta, just looks little more "manly"

Hmmm. I have no figures at hand, but I would guess the Jazz has more space than the truck - certainly in the back. As for comfort, I would suggest the Jazz would win also. Your 100 kilo frame would easily fit in a Jazz, as would 3 of your 100 kilo friends.

No, I don't own a Jazz.

I don't agree regarding the space, I been test sitting the new Ranger 3-4 times now (one on order nowsmile.png ) and with the drivers seat all the way back I can sit comphy and enough space behind the driver. Not so on my current City 06 where I had to lengthen the slider bars for the drivers seat in order to sit comfortable and there is not much space behind the driver anymore (I can't sit there).

Don't know about the comfort level when driving, haven't tried it yet.

My time as a sedan owner is over here in Thailand, don't fell safe in my vee tin can City among all those pick-ups, flooded roads & pot holes.

That said my VTEC City (same engine as Jazz from same year) have been a good and reliable car for the money and we been doing 3-4 trips Pattaya - SiSaket and back and the comfort was very good. When I am at Ford showroom for talking to the staff regarding my Ranger, I always see a lot of Thais around the Fiesta so the interest seems big and I see a lot of them on the roads in Pattaya and not many new Jazz's.

Have to wonder if that is because of the supply since the floods ?

Yes many Fiesta, Mazda 2 and surprise Chevy Aveo on red plates about., maybe gives other a chance ? see many new Proton models

Have own 2004 type Jazz at the same time a D-Max space cab, change to another new D-Max in 2008, no more room in the truck, now have a Mazda BT50 Hi-Racer which has more room then the 2008 D-Max, cannot compare to Jazz as now have a Audi A6 which has a lot more room........ Room is everything as I am 118kg and 1.88 tall, [6'3] very long legs

I already said it's spacious, seriously. They are for rent at every corner, just rent one for a day and test it?

it may well be more spacious in the back, but i do not buy a car to sit in the backbiggrin.png

I am also unsure how it could would be more spacious all around if it can almost fit into the trunk of a truck

I bought my Honda City back in 2009 before the Fiesta or Mazda 2 were even released. The City is just a Jazz sedan and the Fiesta especially is far more modern in terms of features and the dual-clutch transmission really interests me. I'm not impressed enough to trade in my City, but if I had a choice now, I'd look at the Fiesta.

I was keen on the Mazda 2, until I test drove one. Cramped, noisy, stiff and gutless, but mind you I'm used to driving a Triton.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the cars in this range have a similar feel, with Jazz being the best due to it's large interior and 118hp engine.

It seems manuals are becoming a thing of the past, I could understand for family sedans, but for low powered and 'sporty' cars, a manual is a must.

The Mazda 3 looks nice, but pricy and only a 1.6 (105hp) engine without a manual option.

Every week I have to drive 120kms to Bkk and back, my wife needs a car while I'm away, so we thought a cheap economical car would be good.

Now I'm thinking of getting something second hand that is bigger, or buying the Mazda two for my wife and using the Triton for Bangkok trips

A new Jazz takes to long for delivery and the second hand ones are overpriced.

Thai Friend bought a Mazda BT50 for himself and a Mazda 2 for his wife, they both hated it, 4 months on sold it and bought the new Colorado 4 door Auto, she loves it, he thinks the Mazda is better, but is was all about delivery time... Mazda 4 - 6 weeks, Chevy was ready in 4 days.

What did he hate about the BT50?

The Mazda 2 they hated, so now they have the BT50 Hi-Racer and Chevy Colorado 4 door Auto

I drove a Mazda 2 auto for about 5 minutes. First impressions were - very noisy foot to the floor and was left wondering if we were accelerating or not.

This was my impressions, but I haven't driven anything else in that class. The Jazz has 118hp, quite a bit more, but the waiting list is long and second hand they're overpriced.

Note that the jazzes power to weight ratio is only slightly better than that of the jazz, as the jazz is much heavier. The mazda 2 is best in manual form.
