Carpenter'S Glue And Epoxy Putty ........ Where?

Recommended Posts

Just got back from global house, hard to believe but they had no wood glue !!! or epoxy putty !!! I have purchased both in CM in the past, used to get epoxy putty at Rimping market but they stopped selling it and have not been able to find anywhere.

If there are any woodworkers out there that know of where to buy carpenters glue and or epoxy putty... I need it, not looking for TOA Latex, not strong enough, I want real wood glue, the kind that the glue joint will be stronger than the wood. Thanks in advance.

Home Pro has some glues better than latex. The best is probably the dry powder (weld wood I think) in a can that you mix with water, it is available many places like the Home Mart stores, and perhaps Home Pro. Not sure about the epoxy putty.

Franklin Adhessives, maker of Tightbond, shows an office in Bangkok and an address. Several months ago I emailed them for a dealer in Chiang Mai, but no reply. I have not called them.

I'm looking for some Araldite epoxy glue. Is it available in Chinag Mai, or maybe a good equivalent?

Not 4 litre tins but just a couple of tubes or the type that comes in a twin syringe.

Is Global house likely to stock this? My lack of Thai language and their lack of English usually makes shopping there a little difficult.

We just ordered Titebond III from Franklin International's office in Bangkok for our wood door and wood flooring factory here in Chiang Mai - they say it will be in stock end of this month.

Araldite is not something i have seen here.

I too was looking for wood glue recently. I didnt find any, other than what i assumed was wood glue in small plastic "ketchup squeezy" bottles at home pro, which were probably adequate for gluing picture frames together.

i was looking for somethin akin to "cascamite" a powder glue you mix with water or "cow glue" yes made from animal bones......maybe that stuff just shows my age and doesnt exist anymore. The "no nails" gun adhesive is very very poor.....certainly not anything as good as "sticks like ...." in uk (no nonsense brand name eh!!)

i do spend a lot of time in Global and you have to really study every shelf because what you usually need comes in different guises and you have to try and ascertain what many products actually are as its not clear....for example dont go looking for a Stanley smoothing plane.....first find the block of timber and then try find the different blades to fit it.....and dont go looking for straightforward white emulsion you will never find it....first ask the assistant, then when he offers you a tub with a jade green colour sticker on it , ask again.....is this white.....yes....are you sure....yes.....why the green colour sticker...just code...it says Base A so thats white....obvious....leeely.

there is a method in trying to find something at the diy warehouses, usually best done alone with your ipod playing.

I use Global several times a week and it is a strange place to find anything in there. Wood screws for instance at different ends of the store. 5/8" threaded rod they have, but no nuts that size. Thai Wasadu sell 5/8" but no threaded rod.

Just bought a Pillar drill {drill press} from Global but the don't sell the drill vise.

Home Pro has some better quality tools than the other two big outlets and does sell a very good yellow wood glue called Elmers {American?} but made under licence in China.

Has anyone seen Linseed oil around, I have been to countless places without luck.

This has been asked before and i forget. You may find linseed in a sports shop that sells cricket bats.

Do they sell cricket bats here, :(

I've found Regular Linseed oil at that Paint/Hobby store on Ratvithi Rd. located here:

18.790558, 98.991871

It's on the second or third floor in the back by the paints. I'm still looking for Boiled Linseed oil myself. Haven't found any here in Chiang Mai

It's the boiled Linseed oil I'm looking for too, here in Lampang but would settle for Teak oil, Tung oil? or Danish oil but Thais seem to prefer surfaces to have a mirror finish.

Just a thought but would it be possible/effective to buy from that store near you and boil it yourself. Depending on cost it might be worth a try.

I have no doubts that Teak oil and Weld wood powered glue is widely available in some places but does not appear to be available here in Lampang from the three big stores I previously mentioned so could you be a little more specific and post the name of some shops that stock it. Would be appreciated.

Wackysleet,

You don't want to boil Linseed oil, you'll burn down your house. In this case, Boiled just means that it has additives to make it dry faster. That's why it works so well as a friction polish.

I know that the True Value stores in Bangkok and Pattiya carry it, (at least it shows it on there online site) but there is no True Value store here in Chiang Mai. I've sent them several emails, but have had no responses. Maybe someday if I ever go to Bangkok, I'll be able to get several cans of it and bring and bring it back to Chiang Mai.

I have not checked stocks recently so can not give you a definitive answer. Home Pro and the big Home Mart store called Noppadol Panit have carried them in the past. The glue is usually available at lumber shops like Suksawat and they have had teak oil at their branch on the super highway. That is about Chiang Mai.
