Has anyone any news about the possibility of Triumph being given a tax reprieve so they can sell certain models directly here in LOS, similiar to Ducati, Kawasaki, etc. It was a big rumour early this year but the rumours have died since. I very much hope they do, because even as a life long Ducati fan I would love to add a Triumph to the garage, as they have a great range of bikes at the moment.

When I was at Ducati Pattaya a few weeks picking up my M795 ago I spoke with a director from the Ducati factory he used to work for Triumph and he said that Triumph was in the process of applying for the same 'tax licence' that Ducati has. As a Brit I'd love a Triumph Street Triple, but I'm not willing to pay a 290,000 Baht premium over the M795. If the Street Triple was available for 400,000 Baht I'd buy one in a couple of years time.

The Street Triple finally has some decent competition and what a beauty it is! MV Agusta 675 Brutale will definitely affect the Street Triple sales.

I really hope this is true but I want to see it before I believe it. Remember the rumors about Royal Endfields coming to Thailand, where are they?

I saw a Triumph sign on a factory in Thailand once whilst on the motorway but I'm still unsure if it was for the bike or a bra.

They been fabrication Triumph bikes here for years but due to too many parts comes from overseas (I think), they can't have the proper Thai price, but taxed heavily.

From what I understand the models produced in Thailand are complimentary to some of the models still being produced in England, these being the Bonneville twin range and the 675 triple range. The engines are manufactured and assembled at the Triumph factory in England and delivered complete, along with some other parts, to the bike assembly plants in Thailand. Some completed bikes are delivered back to the UK to satisfy demand, while the rest are delivered to markets closer to Thailand. If the proposed tax break is for Triumphs assembled in Thailand then we can look forward to being able to buy a Bonneville and it`s variants plus the Street Triple and Daytona 675, all of which would suit me fine and dandy, especially if pricing is similar to the UK - Bonneville on the road £5249 + 20% VAT. Street Triple on the road £5749 on the road + 20% VAT. Factor in more for higher spec versions such as Bonnie Scrambler and Thruxton and Street Triple Rsmile.png . Edited by BirdsandBooze

I have a Thruxton (2nd hand) The new price when I bought it was 595k. They suddenly now have jumped up to 700k......Whats up with that? Trying to cash in before the price drop?

I either got a good deal or if they are going to sell them tax free, ripped off....ermm.gif

I was visiting the factory at Amarta City a couple of months ago and asked about pricing in Thailand. Nothing is planned for sales in Thailand as the market is considered too small compared to Europe, America and Australia, bad news for some but at least my 11 month old Speed Triple isn't going to depreciate 60% overnight.

I understand BritBike put their prices up as a business necessity, after all Ducati are way bigger in the sales volume so make sense to go upmarket and focus on exclusivity and enhanced ownership experience.

I will say to anybody considering owning a Triumph, it's more fun than a barrel of monkeysbiggrin.png

"We're small so let's stay small" - interesting strategy! :cheesy:

I think they just didn't think they'd sell bikes in volume in Thailand and now that Ducati is selling hundreds of monsters they're probably reconsidering this idea... I mean it's not just Thailand, it's the whole of ASEAN. Ducati is betting on there being a big market and I think they got it right.

It's certainly the case that if Triumph change their pricing it will be because of ASEAN and those countries that have preferential trading relationships with ASEAN and can be easily exported to from Thailand . Also ASEAN wants to have a single market and production base by 2015. I believe Triumph will definitely go down the same route as Ducati it's just a case of when.
