Dtac And Dyndns / No-Ip

Featured Replies

hello all!

i have a wicked problem her:

when i connect with dtac 3g i get an internal ip in the 10.xx.xx.xx range an and and 153.xxx.xxx.xxx external one. this really messes up dyndns and no-ip. (the are registering on the internal without a problem) internaly this is no problem. from dtac i can connect to the 10.x range and the reverse lookup on no-ip. Remotely this does'nt work ( any other net) any of you guy's has an idea on this?

Having not tried it yet myself I was interrested in the problem - I found this post in another forum all the other info was not of any use but the problem sounds to be the same issue and could be a hint.

There is an existing slution for your problem. I only know the detail on how to get this working on Vodacom, although I do remember MTN having similar solutions.

Anyway, here goes:

1.) You need a Public IP Address to be assigned to the 3G Modem. The default setting used my both MTN and Vodacom is, to use the "internet" APN which assigns a Private 10.x.x.x IP address to your 3G modem. This address is obviously a NATed address, and is therefore not addressable from the internet.

Vodacom has an additional APN called "unrestricted" for which you have to apply first (See http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/un...ricted_apn.jsp). Once you have been granted access, you will be assigned a Public IP address every time you connect using 3G.

2.) Combine this with a DynDNS Update utility, you should have what you need. I'm currently running this solution using the new Billion 7300GX ADSL/3G Modem, and a Vodafone Huawei E620 PCMCIA Card. It works like a charm!

Hope this helps.

None of the 3G providers here will supply you with a public IP address.

Actually, Dtac sometimes does, but they have any and all incoming ports closed anyway.

This is actually standard worldwide, nothing Thailand specific.

What is Thailand specific, is that they have no clue on special packages which do allow incoming connections/public IP address. Where they do in the rest of the world, as mentioned in the post above, often named unlimited APN.
