Rust Proofing A New Car

Featured Replies

having just seen my neighbours new car after he had the body protected with this system[by cadulac] what are the benefits it does look good,he must have had his old car done as well which is 7years old but looks immaculate.

Unless you are living on the beach I don't think it's really required. The modern factory finish is enough

We didn't bother when new but we kept getting a few scrapes on the bottom of our low car so re-undersealed and checked last year at 3 year old, 1000 baht. :)

They come out the factory with plenty until some ****wit at the car wash blasts it off to make your car look lovely and clean.

Oh no, my V-Cross came completely unprotected, the dealer had the apprentice put a bit of this and that and left the rest to me, the buyer.

The modern factory finish is next to nothing and if you plan on having the car longer than 3 years you must do the "homework" yourself.

Yes, as you should have before you bought an Isuzu.

Unless you drive on a beach or on salted ice the factory finish on a ford/Mazda is fine.

Plenty of Fords and Mazdas in OZ have reported surface rust issues when still under warranty. these live no where near a salted road or the beach.

Yes, of course. I forgot that. Could you kindly direct me to a link where you got this information from?

I like especially the part that quotes "Ford" and "Mazda".

Both are the reason every expat (foreigner) loves them and drives them and buys them till no stock in shop.

Made a mistake, my fault, life goes on.

Fords and Mazdas, farangs buy them ? Give me their names Pike. laugh.png

delivered yesterday and looking underneath the body i am definately having it rust proofed.

Lot depends where you live, if the roads are crap then stones thrown up by the tyres can chip the under body paint which starts the ball rolling. I have fitted plastic mudguards in the rear wheel wells and flaps on the front to reduce this problem. smile.png

I actually removed the OEM plastics for more wheel clearance, made a shocking noise when a tyre made contact.

This came up as something worthwhile to do on a TV thread when I was asking what sort of extras we should be looking for on a new purchase last year. We duly included it in the list and the dealer had no problem with it.

Apparently we have "Premium by TVC" Rust proofing, even a little sticker on the back of the truck, and a card with a lot of dates on it every 6 months - which I have just noticed we missed the first 6 month date in March. They seem to have quite a few centres around Thailand. The only problem is everything other than the words I quoted is in Thai so i need to try and get the gf to translate because I cannot remember if it is a free check up or what.......unsure.png .

Seems like the local outlets for this "service" only cater to Hondas......My documents actually quote 400 baht which is significantly different to the 140 baht you were quoted - also the customer service centre said thay do not offer the package we have any more...Only 3 locations in BKK will offer the check up - oh well hope the original work was good enough to last a while.... unsure.png

To be honest, after a motor is under sealed from new, it lasts the life of the car, unless it is exposed to chemicals. My old Volvo Estate was under sealed when new and was perfect when l sold it 16 years later. thumbsup.gif

I have the underneath of my honda civic recoated every 6 months at a shell garage on Tiwanon Road. 300 baht with a wash and clean inside. + 300 for a buff polish if you want it, 600 baht all up. Never had a problem with rust underneath after 200,000 km which I just clocked up the other day.

Keep in mind that if under seal has come off for some reason, and rust has a foothold, covering it up with more seal does nothing, rust moves on like cancer. w00t.gif

Oddly, rust comes from inside frame work, places your eye cannot see. Same as silencers (mufflers), rust from the inside. sick.gif

Anybody know where to get rustproofing done in Phuket?

Maybe simply ask your Ford dealer to include it in his package?

They will include, apparently, but if not I would like to know my options..... :)

  • 5 months later...

Does anyone know where to go for rust proof in Ladkrabang area? I had a Honda before and indeed the dealer provide Premium, but now I don't drive a Honda anymore at once you almost not welcome anymore at Premium, unless you drive very far to one of their service-centres in the middle of Bangkok. Their should be other alternatives nearby Ladkrabang? Hope anyone can inform me. I also read that WowWax provide it, but... also not nearby :(
