Anyone know of a decent English speaking doctor in Korat ??

I'm trying to avoid the need to go to BKK, if possible.

I'm in Phimai, and have used the Bangkok Hospital in Korat town for minor things, but think none of the docs there can really understand me.

Any one like to recommend a good English speaking doc in BKK ??

Ta Sheryl , today I have e'd 9 so called international hospitals in Bkk.

I'm not going to put my prob with a Thai doc; so it's find a euro or n. american one; or a trip back to the uk will be on soon.

You only die once, but no rush !

If what you need is not just an English speaking doc but a western one, the Mission Hospital in Bkk (Adventist hospital) has a few. I don't know the type you need but Dr. Nick Walters (Internal medicine and Infectious Disease) has been very favorably recommended by many. For general surgery/GI, I've seen Dr. Grover Harpeethe, ditto. There may be others but these are the 2 I know.

Driving, you get off at the Yammorat exit of the Rama 9 - Chaeng Wattana expressway and it's just a few blocks from there.

A capable and friendly hospital but despite its non-profit status, on the expensive side. Probably in the 1,000- 1,500 baht range for a consultation.

And indeed the nicest part is being able to have an iopen, dircet and detailed two way discussion, which is hard to do with most Thai doctors both linguistically and culturally.

Thanks again Sheryl.

I phoned the hospital today to try and talk to Dc Nick Walters, but was unable to get past reception.. Deja vu. Would you happen to know a direct way to contact him?

I have sent an email to the hospital marked, "FOR THE ATTENTION OF DOCTOR NICK WALTERS"

Of the 9 hospitals I emailed, 5 replied.

2 have all Thai Doctors.

Bumrungrad Hospital looks promising.

Looks like Bkk next week, I will try to get 2 seperate examinations.................

Hi,

If you're coming to BKK, there's an English Doctor at The Racquet Club, Sukhumvit 49/9 not far from Samitivej Hospital.

The practice name is The Medconsult Clinic & they can be found via their website.

I have found English speaking Doctors at most hospitals in Bangkok. Even at Siriraj you will find anybody with any level of decision-making (i.e. Doctor, Consultant) speaks good English. Medical training is, after all, in English in most of the world.

To use the big public hospitals you WILL need a small dose of patience to get from the front-desk to your desired department, but I can't speak highly enough of the level of treatment and patient care from the big public hospitals here. The negative views of public medicine always seem to come from the people whose profits are hurt most by HealthCare (rather then their HealthShare(s)).

Why not skip Bangkok and visit the CM University related Sriphat Hospital, a third of the price and a much higher level of quality than the large well known private hospitals in Bangkok, there's a list of doctors/medical specialists in a pinned post in the Chinag Mai forum, most of whom speak good levels of English or better.

Very interesting!

I checked out the Medconsult clinic web site, and discovered the English doctor there is the same one who has a consultancy at the Bumrungrad Hospital two mornings a week.

Doctor Donna Robinson.

I phoned her today, (luckily for me, she was neither sleeping, eating rice, watching t.v. or playing with her mobile phone at the time) and have an appointment to see her, at her practice; not the Bumrungrad; next thursday.

Very happy with that, cut out the middle men delays, and their cut.

The elusive Dr. Nick Walters continues to elude me, so I have requested an appointment at the Samitivej Hospital on the same day, mainly because it's very close indeed to the Medconsult clinic.

Nice to feel I've made some progress!
