Aircon Max Lenght Connection To Compressor

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The aircon i currently have has died. I have had it repaired before so i think its at end of life.

Now i probably want to place it on an other wall. The question is how many meters could the connection to the outside unit be.

I also want to know if there is a disadvantage to longer connection (heat loss / gas loss ect)

I hope someone can advice me in this matter.

Depends on how long, and making sure it's well insulated.

One of our compressors was moved futher away from the room airhandler and it's now 6 metre, works OK the same as before.

You need to talk to your A/C man. Long runs can be compensated for by using larger copper, the installation manual for the unit will say how big a tube is needed for the length you have.

Roughly what distance are we talking here?

I doubt there will be an issue with a standard installation then, we had units 10m from the compressor in my condo with no special installation.

Thanks, its good to have something to fall back upon. Lots of good information around here.

Just don't forget you also need a drain and a sloop on that so if that has to run the same route you may have blockage issues if you do not allow for it.

At my last home in the States the distance between my central air unit inside the house and the compressor unit in the yard was a good 20 meters...the freon piping ran underground for about 12 meters of that 20 meters....worked fine.

Max length of standard pipe to a rotary compressor unit is around 12m over which will result in loss of cooling efficiency.

Reciprocating compressors can tolerate longer lengths.
