Hi all

Does anyone knows the standard price for a 120 cm KU Band Satellite fix Dish in Bangkok ?

Ive been to several shops around bkk and different stores quote different prices and some are amazingly too high

If you have any trusted and reliable store please do share

This is what i was told by different stores

Store 1 : 2000 Baht (Installation and wiring extra 1500)

Store 2: 3000 Baht

Store 3 : 5000 Baht

Store 4 : 12000 Baht ( including installation and wiring)

Cheers

Thank you for the info guys smile.png anymore recommendation from others ?

If you are a handy person you can reduce the costs by fitting it yourself - it's not rocket science. With some basic tools (a plastic school protractor 5Bt and a cheap compass) you can set the alignment. www.dishpointer.com can give you sat co-ordinates for your location and just measure your dish angles etc and hey presto sat TV. I bought the PSI OK system for my missus - 65 free Thai channels for just over 1000Baht, took a couple of hours to install. They had English stuff too but I don't watch TV just use internet. I think I could have possibly got a better price too but that was hindsight. Good luck

PS I'm in Chiang Mai so I'm sorry but cannot recommend any shops for you but I just rode around town looking for stores with a load of dishes on them. For good prices avoid the big fancy shops.

problem with dish direction is the longitude of satellite relative to your location ...I am sure one can calculate it based on your GPS position but easier just to tour the neighborhood to get a feel for the approx direction ....unless you have a finder

Did you look on the website I suggested - it gives every measurement you need to align the dish and calculates it virtually to your doorstep. Like I say the basic tools (protractor and compass) do the job and the inbuilt signal meter help with fine tweaking. The website even suggests possible obstructions like hills and tall building.

PS to the OP, ignore the PSI flyers for 2500 Baht - they showed me this in the shop I bought mine and when it came to pay I started getting the readies out and then they gave me the bill 1095 Baht if I remember right = Box, dish, LNB, bracket, cable and F-connectors. Just make sure it's a Mom and Pop style shop, I went to Amorn, Big C etc and their prices were OTT.

Hi - just to make sure you did read the last post I made that I was confused by the metric size and I believe mine to be the small dish (don't want you flaming me laterwink.png ) However the shop I bought from did have dishes of every size going so I think you can still negotiate a good price. Best of luck

PS us old senile types still thinking in feet and inchesthumbsup.gif but I can still set up a satellite system or a computer for that matter.

The 9Sats.com site is good place to get the fair price for equipment....I buy all my satellite equipment from them....and every time I go to the store there are lots of satellite installers there buying equipment....I expect they then double to triple (or more) the price paid in order to cover their labor/installation costs.

I remember a couple a years ago when one of my neighbors installed a C band system....the neighbor told the installer he wanted the same DynaSat settop boxes I had (which at that time cost 550 baht at 9Sat)...the installer charged my neighbor 1000 baht per the exact same box. From what my neighbor got charged for the installation (a 1.7M dish, 4 boxes, multiswitch, and cabling) I estimated the amount paid was approx 2.5 times the cost of the equipment only. So, 1.5 of the total cost was labor/profit, which depending on how labor/time intensive the installation is which will vary from residence to residence, it could still be a fair deal.

As this poster is talking about installation costs etc, I will just offer a bit of advice for the DIYers. If you speak a little Thai like Chang, Leo, Singha your neighbours or building owner will be only too glad to loan you a set of ladders (ban-dai) and possbly a drill (I have my own 250Bt BigC because I like to keep busy) you can keep installation costs to a minimum (or even nil). My neighbours wanted to do the ladder and drill work for me because they 'not believe stupid farang can climb ladder or use drill'clap2.gif
