Dear all I have a standard personal bank account here with Kassikorn Bank.

I have received a normal cheque from a UK bank account.

I would like to pay it in here as I don't have access to a UK account.

Will they need any more information other than just the cheque and my paying in book?

Thanks

I think it will take a long time, the bank here has to send the cheque to the UK bank for payment. If they can do that (I think you will have problems as it is not a bankers draft) I imagine the charges will be high. Depending on the amount of the cheque you might be better off asking the person who sent you the cheque to tranfer the amount direct to your bank here as GBP and cancel the cheque. You will need to give them your Thai bank details obviously.

But the thai bank will not credit your account untill the UK bank has cleared the funds. Maybe a month to wait?

Deposited cheques a number of times with Kasikorn no hassle whatsoever. They say may take 4-5 weeks but in my experience its usually 3.

The deposit wont show until the cheque clears.

Had the same with K Bank with a UK tax rebate cheque, when I paid it in they told me it would take 42 days to clear.

DMM, please let us know how you get on and what the charges are etc.

I have an a/c at Kasikorn Suk 33 branch, and despite the location and the number of farang customers, communicating in English can be a bit fraught.

It has occurred to me that they would be a bit confused at receiving a UK cheque.

(The question has been asked previously with responses as above, i.e. no problem but can take up to 6 weeks.)

Done it once at Kasikorn. I think you need your passport as well.

The charge was 300 to 500 Baht can't remember how much exactly. The cheque was for about £100 cost about 1000B in total I think. IIRC it was a while ago. As others have said it takes weeks.

The only check I've deposited is a US tax return check at Bangkok Bank. It took less than a week to clear, but got shafted on the bank charges and exchange rate etc.

I have deposited many UK cheques in my Thai Kasikorn bank account.

They usually take 3 weeks to clear, but have taken up to 6 weeks, so best to allow 6 weeks.

Exchange rate is the TT rate on the day it is cleared and arrives in your bank.

Kasikorn bank charges the equivalent of 10 US$ per cheque, about 300 Baht. Fee is payable when you deposit the cheque.

They will photocopy your passport for their records and you will sign it.

Make sure that the slip of paper that you will receive identifies the cheque as GBP, some bank staff think that all foreign cheques are US$.

Not sure about the TT rate as whenever i deposited a cheque into Kasikorn or siam comercial bank

i always got the cash exchange rate of the day it cleared.

All times it took 3 weeks to clear.

The time period for the clearance of a current account UK bank cheque in a Thai bank is up to 6 weeks.

You will be charged the same amount as completing a telegraphic transfer and the exchange rate will be whatever it is on the time and day the cheque clears.

The charge is $10 converted to thai baht at the time of paying in the cheque.

So around 300bt.
