Beach Balls game turns violent

PATTAYA:-- Ball game turned to murder on Saturday night

Saturday evenings always draw crowds to beach road as the sunset hits the ocean and loving couples, along with vendors, and less celubrious characters fill the promenade from one end to the other. It’s a time when most look forward to a day off and can enjoy life without worrying about tomorrow.

In amid the crowds were a group of three local nationals who sat drinking heavily while playing a simple game of kicking, catching and throwing a ball.

To the outsider it would have appeared quite friendly. But there was a bet. If you dropped the ball, you had to pay the others 20 baht.

As more and more beer was drunk, so the game became more demanding and tempers began to fray. The elder of the trio, a 35 year old, accused one of the other of cheating. After an argument, he slapped the man about the head and he, now equally angry, stabbed his accuser in the stomach with an iron spike, that he just happened to have about his person.

Maybe I am missing something here but if you are playing 'catch' surely you must be at a disadvantage if you are running around with a frigging 'iron spike' concealed on you?

It is amazing how many of Thai's carry weapons of some sort!

Anybody care to rewrite the opening paragraph to truely reflect beach road in Pattaya on a Saturday evening, somebody reading this who didnt know may think its all very idyllic

It's more serious than Fabulous 103 makes out.

Here we have a serious crash between a would be High school travelogue, a serious crime report and the Pattaya City PR department.

>>Had this happened a few months ago, then it would all be hearsay but with the recent installation of extra lighting and CCTV along the beachside Police will already have the full episode on film.<<

I'm so glad all that money was spent on CCTCs and not on putting extra police feet on the ground. No doubt the BIBs have already burnt the vision to disc and it's available for purchase in the dingy sub-sois of Pattaya... unless the next announcement is that "unfortunately the cameras in the area were not operating at the time" (because the budget only allowed for the installation of the CCTC housings).

After years of never failing to be surprised by the piss-poor quality writing at Pattaya Daily News and feeling comfortable that such writing standards couldn't fall to a lower standard it appears a new challenger to that title has emerged on the scene.

Who writes this tripe? Seriously?

"celubrious"

Someone has bought a new dictonary for them... "Celubrious" is before "Hub" "crack down" and "white lies"...biggrin.png

I would imagine the iron spike was one of those used to hold the beach umbrellas, just bad reporting that he "had it about his person".
