Why Don't Commercial Aircraft Have Cameras In The Cabin?

Featured Replies

We all know about the black box etc, but I have always wondered why modern Aircraft don't have CCTV attached to the BB.We can have a game consol in every seat, but not CCTV.What's the story?

wouldn't this help in finding out what happened in certain accidents?

You would think so wouldnt you. But then they would be caught sleeping for most of the flight :o

I didn't mean just TG. :D

Some airlines have had cameras giving you a view out the cockpit window but its unfortunately rare, and they always turn off the screens at takeoff and landing so the best parts you can't see. :o

That would be just like Big Brother without the fags...koff-koff. :o

Did a Lon-Bangers run once with Garuda once and they had the cameras in the front of the cockpit (outside.... of course :D )and they let them run almost through the whole flight from take off to landing.

Approach to Don Muang was superb.

One of those beautiful clear mornings with the sun just about coming up and most of the street lights as well as the airport approach indicators fully illuminated.

The plane circled a couple of time and then made its long slow approach to the runway and as said kept the camera operational until we actually stopped.

Good idea and dont know why they all dont all do it...better than some of the pictures that they show. :D

Emirates planes have two cameras, one forward facing and one downward facing. They're on all the time and can be selected on separate channels on your seatback display. Quite interesting during landing and takeoff :o

Same on Cathay Pacific. Interesting during take-off and landing. Of course a bit boring during the flight, if you see oonly clouds.

I was on a flight once.... Had a camera looking forward and slightly down.... great stuff, far better than the heavily edited movies.... It got really exciting when we started going down.... Of course the plane was crashing so fast, I didn´t have time to both watch the screen and get a blowjob off the waitress.... Unfortunatly the tape burned in the crash, but nonetheless, rather fun.

I never tell fibs.

Air Canada :D and some other unionized airlines wouldn't allow cameras in the cabins, for fear people would realize how little they work, and the poor service they provide (could be damaging when they go on strike for even higher wages :o )

As for the non-union airlines ? I think the cost would be a consideration. Having cameras wouldn't prevent a hijacking (no way the pilot/co-pilot could monitor the cameras any ways).

It could help figure out what really happened after the fact (if the films were kept in a "black box"), but there is the problem with the possiblity of the tapes being released to the public one way or another (after a crash for example).

In fact, you can gaurantee that some news org's would sue to have the films released.

Who wants to see their relatives final moments as their plane goes down in flames ?

If the public had a glimpse of what was going on in the cabins of the planes right before they hit the World Trade centers (or that field in Penn State), or the planes that have been blown up by terrorists in various places, the air industry would fold overnight. Nobody would want to fly again.

It might very well be an over-reaction, but never the less, passenger numbers would suffer a huge drop and many (most ?) airlines would face bankruptcy. Many airlines are on shaky grounds now (like United Airlines I think it is, that is currently operating under bankruptcy protection).

I think the air industry must have considered cameras at some point (seems logical), and decided against them. Maybe for the reasons I mentioned, maybe for some other reasons.

maybe they already do, maybe we just dont know!!!!
