BANGKOK: -- The Metropolitan Police chief, who was recently under scrutiny for posing for a photograph with fugitive former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, yesterday set up team of 13 cops to investigate core Democrat Party members in a defamation complaint filed by the former leader.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt General Kamronwit Thupkrajang signed an order putting his deputy, Pol Maj-General Anuchai Lekbamrung, in charge of the case. He also listed the 13 officers he wants to investigate the case in the same memo. The investigation team will be holding its first meeting at the Lumpini Police Station on Tuesday.

On October 17, Thaksin's lawyer Worawit Lahlaeng and Pheu Thai Party spokesman Promphong Nopparit filed a defamation complaint on Thaksin's behalf at the Lumpini Police Station.

In the complaint, it was alleged that Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, former Democrat secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban and other key Democrats, including Korn Chatikavanij, Sathit Pitutecha and Sirichoke Sopha had made comments defaming him at a political rally in Lumpini Park on October 13.

Thaksin claims that the Democrat Party members defamed him by saying that he had ordered the so-called "men in black" to attack troops and protesters and that he was behind the prolonged 2010 red-shirt protest.

In his order to set up the investigation team, Kamronwit said it had to be done because Thaksin was a former prime minister and the accused were merely MPs. He also stated that both sides would be treated with fairness.

In June, Kamronwit met the former leader overseas and posed for a photograph showing Thaksin giving him police medals.

The investigative team will hold the first meeting at the Lumpini police station on October 30.

The 13 officers on the investigative are:

1) Pol Col Sukhun Prommayon, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5

2) Pol Col Rangsan Praditphol, Lumpini police station commander

3) Pol Col Samrit Ketyaem, a specialist of Metropolitan Police Division 5

4) Pol Lt Col Decha Promsuwan, a specialist of Lumpini police stastion

5) Pol Lt Col Yut Thongyu, a specialist of Lumpini police station

6) Pol Lt Col Siripong Phumlaojaeng, a specialist of Makkasan police station

7) Pol Lt Col Pairat Sailert, a specialist of Makkasan police station

8) Pol Lt Col Sunatpol Niramitsupachet, a specialist of Makkasan police station

9) Pol Lt Col Samak Panyawon, a specialist of Lumpini police station

10) Pol Lot Col Sarit Sitnasri, a specialist of Wat Phrayakrai police station

11) Pol Maj Yutthasilp Karin, a specialist of Bang Na police station

12) Pol Capt Adisak Laodee, an investigator of Lumpini Police station

13) Pol Lt Pakorn Thongchin, an investigator of Lumpini Police station.

I wish I could say that I'm shocked, but unfortunately, I'm not. Thaksin is clearly aiming to take over the country, and he doesn't accept any opposition. The military coup clock is ticking.

Extra - Extra - Read all about it.... Convicted criminal sues for defamation in absentia.

What's next? If the coward exiled criminal cannot/will not appear and give testimony, then drop this ridiculous charade and Kamronwit should have more brains than even to entertain such stupidity. What a waste of time of resources.

I do wonder how much longer this fuse is going to burn, the corridors of power irrespective in the main of their political hue must be getting concerned about what is happening..

Powerful people are seeing their little fiefdoms and power bases thus ''income'' in danger of being amalgamated into the Thaksin power base and treasury, there will be repercussions.

My personal view is that the the next six to nine months are going be a crucial period for Thailand and its people.

Hopefully if there is a putsch it will be like the last one with no loss of life.

However more worrying is the fact that there are more than one or two aged participants of the 1992 army intervention and that was a truly brutal change of regime..I was here and it wasn't a pleasant time by any means as I am sure others who were here at the time will agree.

Hopefully lessons have been learnt from recent history, although knowing human nature coupled with the peoples short memory span I somehow doubt it.

Out of the list of 13, it seems that only one, and possibly 2, is likely to actually carry out any meaningful work - and that would be to ascertain if the alleged statements were made, not to determine their accuracy. The major's job is to supervise the 2 lesser ranks, while the captain will delegate most of his assignment to the looey

The other 10 colonels are "specialists" in coffee drinking and seat warming, and their commander, put there as a massive show of brass to impress the great man. Being on a Thaksin Task Force, along with a suitable gratuity, is a great way to get a promotion. (I almost wrote "earn a promotion" there, silly of me.)

The continued vilification of TS is slanderous. The Dems lost the plot a long time ago and their continued obsession with TS is unhealthy and certainly detrimental to them. No matter what the majority on here think, before the Dems go on stage and accuse people of serious crimes they should have evidence to back up their claims. They claimed they would release new evidence, but as usual had nothing to show. How much deeper can they dig their own hole.

Open your other eye.

The 13 cops are there to prevent the last supper by hiding the evidence.

The police general is just fulfilling his obligation to pay back his brother...

Underneath the OP photograph, Khamronwit had inscribed a phrase,

"What I have today is due to my brother's generosity"

The Dems will dig a much deeper hole. After all both the Dems / PTP / TS are in a race (to take Thailand) to the bottom, and neither camp wishes to lose to the other.

So don't expect any of them to put away their shovels for a while. Way to much digging to be done

More loose talk about 'evidence'. There is no evidence linking Thaksin to the MiB. Having a photo taken with someone doesn't equate to funding, organizing and controlling a group of 'terrorists'

I along with the rest of the world are dying to see this 'evidence' if it really exists. If it doesn't all those making loose accusations need to shut up

Isn't AV one of the defendents here?? Surely he is a former prime minister as well???

Surely a more accurate reply by Kamronwith would have been

'had to be done because Taksin is a (convicted on the run) former prime minister and the accused include the former PM, former Deputy PM and former Minster of Finance.'

I prefer theatre performances to take place on a stage, with an opening curtain, closing curtain, lighting cues etc. This way I know when the play has begun and when it is over.

The only entity in the country that can counter the corruption of the RTPF is the military. Now that the country is back under Shin Inc, and they as usual are pushing their luck, I agree it's just a matter of time before the tanks roll again, and I don't think they're going to be too concerned about flattening anyone dressed in red or black who gets in their way.

You present a rather loose opinion as fact.

You assume that the "rest of the world" is interested.

Opinions and assumptions are not worth a sparrow's fart I'm afraid.

Which reminds me, when/where is the coup which has been promised me so many times since late 2010 ?wink.png

<deleted>, a fugitive convicted criminal who can decorate the police chief with medals has selected a coven of cops to harrass his political parties opposition. Amazing Thailand!

T

he PTP's cronies continue to push this country, inch by inch, closer to either dictatorship or another coup..

Which clearly shows just how much Thaksin, his family and their brown nosing acolytes along with the myopic farangs who openly support a crooked despotic methodological wanna be dictator love this country and its people.
