I know it is usual to provide bank statements to show you have enough income to support a visitor to the UK.

A friend is currently overdrawn and has been for a while but still has liquid cash in the form of his salary so won't have a problem financially in taking his Thai GF to the UK for a couple of weeks.

Which of the following options is best for him?

Be upfront and just show the bank statements with a negative balance (probably not !);

Show six months of payslips;

Get a relative to co-sponsor the visit;

A combination of the above?

Thanks

Im not an expert but having been through several sucessful visa applications for my wife (Thai) I can say that honesty is always the best policy.

Remember that for a UK visitor visa it is the applicant that its being vetted and not the sponsor. However, the ECO will sniff out anything suspicious and any secrets of any sort will of course not bode well for the applicant.

Also, regardless of whether the sponsor is overdrawn or not, if they have an agreed overdraft then there is no real issue as they still have access to funds. Lets be honest, most people I know in UK are overdrawn - its a fact of life !

Tell him to be honest, supply the bank statements, supply the payslips and all should be fine from that point of view. If nothing else by presenting the honest facts along with a plausible explanation it goes well towards giving credibility to the sponsor and the applicant.
