GOOD GOVERNANCE: Minister Worawat Ua-Apinyakul is playing an essential role in promoting tourism in the Andaman region.

PHUKET: Six local provinces are preparing to host the Andaman Culture Festival. From tomorrow until Sunday the event will highlight the cultural identity of the region under the theme "Andaman – The World Experience".

Phuket Vice Governor Sommai Prijasilpa said that Minister Worawat Ua-Apinyakul has instructed the six coastal provinces of the Andaman region, which includes Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun, to hold events that will promote cultural

tourism.

"For our province, we are holding an event that is called the ‘Andaman Culture Festival @ Phuket’, in order to promote the culture and identity of Phuket," she said.

"All six Andaman provinces have unique cultural customs. The architecture, fashion, food and traditions of this region are unique.

"These identities should be highlighted for both Thais and foreigners to see. It will help promote the cultural tourism of this region," she added.

All six provinces of the Andaman region will hold an event on the same day.

"Our event will be held on November 9. The opening ceremony will be in Phuket. We have invited Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to open the ceremony, which will be held at the Blue Elephant restaurant in Phuket Town. There will also be activities held on Satun road and Dibuk road (click here for map).

"We will have a fair. The main stage will be set up in front of the restaurant building, which is of Sino-Portuguese architecture. The Blue Elephant should prove to be a very good background for the stage, and highlight one of Phuket’s most unique cultural identities."

The fair will include some live music and performances that showcase the diversity of the whole Andaman region. Satun and Dibuk roads will be blocked and on both sides of the street, stages and booths will be set up to exhibit the life-styles of people from the six Andaman provinces.

There will also be some performances demonstrating the Ronggeng dance from the Mae Jew Pramongkit group.

The island’s Sino-Portuguese architecture will be decorated with colorful lighting during the event focusing primarily on Dibuk road.

PM Yingluck will be given a tour of homes on Dibuk road to show her how a true Phuket native lives. For more on this story, click here.
