Sydney man, 51, arrested in Bangkok on AFP advice and charged with sexually abusing a Thai boy

Ian Horswill

BANGKOK: -- A SYDNEY man has been arrested after AFP advice in Bangkok and charged with sexually abusing a seven-year-old Thai boy.

The 51-year-old was detained at Bangkok's international airport on Thursday as he prepared to fly back home after two weeks in Thailand, Australian Federal Police said in a statement.

Police allege he abused the boy while he was staying at the child's uncle's home in the eastern city of Chantaburi.

The investigation began in October after Thai police received a tip-off from AFP detectives.

"On Tuesday, 30 October 2012 the Australian Federal Police (AFP) conducted a search warrant at the man's residential address in Sydney seizing electronic devices. AFP officers subsequently referred information about the man's suspected activities to the Royal Thai Police, as information obtained identified the man was currently in Thailand," the AFP said.

AFP National Coordinator Child Protection Operations Todd Hunter congratulated the Royal Thai Police saying this result was a testament to strong international relationships.

3 - 2 - 1 - here come the "hang 'em high" brigade.

Firstly your ideas (or as your risibly think "solutions") have no base, merit or effect on the problem.

Secondly - look to yourselves and ask "why" you repeatedly feel the need to post on these matters.

Something doesn't sound right - he's just returning home now after 2 weeks in Thailand, yet, they seized material (presumably with evidence) in Australia two weeks ago, presumably before the alleged offence had taken place. Thy guy was stupid enough to leave evidence of his planned activities? Thanks for stitching yourself up thumbsup.gif

---------- What about giving some cdedit to the Thai police for their part

You must be new to Thai Visa. sad.png

Thai police seem to spend a great deal of time apprehending people who "slipped through the fingers" of police in other countries and in assisting police from other jurisdictions , as in this case, but of course it would kill some people to acknowledge that.

The police have to wait until a crime is committed before they can make an arrest. I watched a documentary about Australian heroin mules who were thrown in Thai prison after Australian police tipped off the Thai police. You can't arrest people and keep them in prison simply on intent.

Couldn't agree more with you, if you cannot make constructive comments then don't make any. Saves the rest of us wasting time sorting out the good topic replies from the bad. If you don't like Thailand why do you stay here?

No I am a 5 yr member but only feel the need to reply to people that are constantly bashing thais and seem to be always able to come up with an excuse to run them down------- like I said on another post---lets pretend the Thai Police had nothing to do with it

That could be a nice money earner for Thailand, send all the Paedos here for rehabilitation, or "wacking" as they call it here. Save other countries a fortune in prison costs, so everyone's a winner. Or if you are against the death penalty, the amateur castration techniques they use here would also solve the problem.

I presume 5 years is already to long for you to be a member :) That's what we call "freedom of speech" where everyone can have it's own opinion and is also stated in the Thai constitution, although the meaning "freedom of speech" in this country is totally different then in the western world. Besides that, Thai are also not "holy" talking in terms of bashing others.

“This is another example of a significant transnational joint effort that has potentially saved many young victims from future abuse. Offenders contemplating this abhorrent activity should be warned, you will be reported, you will be investigated and you may well find yourself locked up in an overseas jail.”

We can but only hope that this initiative will strengthen as it progresses and the membership of pedophile movement is slowly but surely locked away so as our children can live and play in complete safety.

Full marks to all those involved in arresting the suspect.

As was said earlier crime's have to be committed prior to arrest, hence the actions of the Australian police force and the resultant co-operation twixt the Australian police and the Royal Thai Police force.

There will be I hope an investigation as to the situation surrounding the family from which the child came from as well as an investigation as to the situation in the uncles house where it seems the accused was staying. No one person should be a whipping boy for others who may have been involved in the matter.

No stones should be left unturned as to the complete set of circumstances surrounding this case, and indeed all other future case as well.

The resultant trial (s) will decide the guilt of the suspect (s) and the sentence(s) to be served in the event of a guilty verdict.

Can't help notice that the comments for the Thai Rhino Horn Trader

are much more abrasive than for this news.

Maybe sexually abusing a seven-year old child is more acceptable

than rhino horn poaching.

Paedophiles are scums of the earth.

That's because the rhino horn poacher and his gang had their day in a South African court and were convicted and sentenced. Guilty as charged!

This Australian paedophile (and they can come from any country) has been apprehended but not sentenced. He will be, then the venom can flow. Hopefully the Australian justice system will mete out a fair punishment.

And yes, they are!

Back on topic after all the Thai Bashers had their say (which I gotta say is always fun) - chemical castration has to be a reward for this guy apart from some serious psychological treatment. As already stated, these people are the lowest scum of the earth.

I agree, something doesn't sound right at all. They discovered 'material' at his home 2 weeks before he was arrested. The AFP are incredibly corrupt. But don't take my word for it. Look at what they did to Schapelle Corby. http://www.expendable.tv/ Just 2 weeks ago they extradited James Henry Kinch (a British citizen) to Australia. He had been illlegally detained for FOUR years in Klong Prem prison, Thailand. They extradited him just hours after the Expendable Team went in to interview him about AFP corruption. http://jameshenrykinch.com/

Nothing is as it seems when it comes to the AFP. They will also have blood on their hands when 2 of the Bali Nine are executed.

Based on your post, I can't help wondering what kind of monitoring the AFP is doing on individuals. Was he individually targeted for some reason or was he part of a general monitoring effort? Can any of you Aussies comment on the state of the police state in, pardon the expression, down under?

Perhaps that is due to therer being a fair trial and a conviction in the rhino case.

All that we have here is a charge and an arrest. Some people exercise caution before commenting prior to the facts of a case being established.
