And wait for us, 1 hour, come back...

Is it possible to "rent"a taxi driver?

Cheaper for the OP to rent a car if not drinking which shows how insane it is. This time of year could maybe get a jeep for the day for 500 Baht while I have to really push to get a return journey from Lamai to Chaweng for 1000.

Far from reasonable but as you say, good price on Samui.

I guess BigC's idea is a non starter for some reason? This time of year most people are earning very little or breaking even so they are willing to practically anything to earn a few bob. Must be lots of people out there willing to earn 300-500 Baht (plus fuel) to just drive around for a couple of hours.
