Suicide attempt of woman desperately in love with a Swedish man who can’t love her back.

Police from Pattaya were called to the N&P Apartments in Rungland Village, South Pattaya on Thursday evening to deal with an attempted suicide at the location. Rescue workers accompanied officers and attended to Khun Praemrudee aged 30 who works in a beer bar, somewhere in Pattaya.

The attempt to take her own life was the result of a failed relationship with a Swedish man who she refused to name. Out of desperation and to send the man a strong message that her love for him is strong, she decided to cut her wrist. Luckily her screams were heard by other residents who alerted the authorities. Although she lost a considerable amount of blood, she is now recovering in hospital and here case has been referred to a psychiatric specialist.

I wouldn't call this a 'suicide attempt' but merely a scream for help and attention.

Yes, phychiatric help is the best thing for her.

In Thailand money is power and it opens doors to opportunity. People without money don't stand much of a chance. The vast majority of Thai girls from Issan area have very little chance of leading what Westerners would consider a good life. These poor girls have no chance of getting a good job in an air-conditioned office or having any form of career - most live a life of drudgery.

The only chances they have to improve their lives are winning the lottery or marrying a foreigner. Not many win the lottery. The odds of marrying a foreign man are much better. Foreign men have money. Even if you don't think you have much, you probably have a lot more than the average Thai. You may be poor in the West but quite wealthy in Thailand because everything is relative. This is why attracting Thai girls is so easy but the problems come later if the relationship isn't working out.

If for any reason it ends, the consequences are quite different for the two people involved.

The man will find himself alone for a while and it will probably be no big deal because there are plenty of other girls but the Thai girl will probably face having to go back to her old life.

It is fair to say that most foreign men treat their Thai girlfriends well and give them a taste of Western life while they are together. The girls get used to the lifestyle but if the relationship ends they are consigned - back to a drudge life.

This is the last thing the girls want and they will plead with the man to let them stay or to take them back. Some girls will go crazy, just not accepting what has happened. They will call continuously and try everything possible to get back. Their efforts to get back might range from out-and-out threats to trying to evoke deep sympathy. Hearing a girl sob day and night on the phone and then getting a call from somebody or her herself - to say she is in hospital in a very bad way isn't always easy to deal with.

Once you understand the reality of life in Thailand it can be quite heartbreaking sending a girl back to that life after you have shared good times with her.

Breaking up with Thai girls is not a fun activity. With some girls it isn't that far removed from "Fatal Attraction".

The silly thing about these attention seeking acts of self-harm is that they drive their (former) partners further away.

It doesn't prove love on her part, but it does prove incorrect choice of woman on his part. :o

Bkk, this is one of the most reasonable explanation I've ver heard. New comers, read and follow the man's advice, he knows what he is talking.

If you consider getting a thai gf, please be cautios, think and think and think before you do it for good. Breaking up with a thai gf could be fatal, heartbraking and sometimes impossible.

Good comment BKK

Very, very true. Not everyone, but most, especially from Pattaya.
