I have a JVC GR -D73AG video camera, purchased in BKK in 2004. I cannot use it it as when I switch to record there is a mesage telling me to remove the lens cap, even though it is already removed. I have explored this problem extensively on the net and it appeasrs to be avery common fault that occurs just after the cameras' guarantee periods expire. Apparanetly it is fixable - at a price - JVC refuse to fix them fo free, even though it is a widespread fault! :o

So, anyone know where to fix in Pattaya?

and... Don't buy a JVC video camera - JVC are a bunch of b..st..ds. :D

I also have had many problems with my JVC Video Camera and as yet have not been able to find anywhere in Pattaya for repairs. The official JVC service centre in Bangkok is in Soi Ari , which runs between Sukhumvit & Rama 4 and they charge 2000 baht just to look at anything, before the cost of the repair.

When my camera was still under warranty i kept getting a message "head cleaning required" ,so after running a head cleaning tape through it and the same message coming up ,i took it to JVC in Bangkok and the Village Idiot behind the counter just went into the menu and turned off the message. Of course i protested and suggested that this was not really fixing the problem, but to no avail, they refused to do anything else. So if you can possibly get into the menu and turn off the "remove the lens cap" message ,you may at least be able to use the camera.

At present i am seriously considering just turfing my JVC into the rubbish bin and buying a new Cannon or Panasonic.

I would suggest to anyone considering buying a JVC. DONT!!! Mine has been a complete lemon from day 1.

Thanks for that - quite depressing! Actually it was working pretty well until this problem arose. As I said, I trawled through American and British technical forums and found the 'lens cap' message was a common problem. Not fixable at home, but many reported having it fixed by JVC who replaced a part for an exhorbitant charge. I am kind of reluctant to bin a 20,000plus baht camera,. but may have to, if no one in Thailand can fix it. Should have spent the dough on a few ladies of the night - no lens cap problems there! :o

Mobi, You will be able to get it fixed at the official JVC service centre in Bangkok, at a cost of 2000 baht plus the cost of parts and repair and it will take about 1 month. With my camera ,i am at the stage that i have had it repaired so many times , that i just dont think it is worth spending any more money on and i will just cut my loses and buy a new one.

As i suggested in the previous post it may be worth trying to dissable the message in the menu. If you can do this at least you will be able to use the camera. Of course with this method the problem is not really fixed but the camera will be functional without the hassle and expense of taking it to Bangkok.

Good Luck Mate.

You should have comment about this a few days ago when I have purchased my JVC video camera, I just realized it's a piece of s**t, so, reformulate, is there a complaint service for JVC cameras in Pattaya?

:D :D :D

You might want to check out this place in Pattaya. Not far from the FRIENDSHIP SUPERMARKET, same side of the road, near the end (or beginning) of Soi Buakhaw is a fairly new building with 6 or 7 floors of electronics, computers, telephones, cameras, etc. Perhaps one of the repair shops there can help you out.

(Can't remember the name of the place, but it is between the Friendship Mkt. and the big fish/produce market.)

It's an electronic mall, named Tukcom if I remember correctly, a small version of Panthip from Bangkok
