Anyone Experience Dryving His Own Car Through Myanmar?

Featured Replies

Is there anyone who has experience driving his own (thai registered) car through Myanmar for a holiday of a few weeks?

Is this possible anyway?

Official requirements?

Dangers?

Not possible? .It will be just like land crossing, you can stay at the border area, can't go further up

To the OP, if you can wait just a few months, and at most a year or so, you will be allowed to drive anywhere you want in Myanmar, coming over from Thailand (and later on, Laos and China). This is because in time for AEC 2015, Myanmar is opening up previously restricted areas and this will include being allowed to drive beyond border areas further inside the country to cities like Naypyidaw, Yangon and Mandalay. I have heard this may happen as early as this year before the SEA games in December or depending on the regulations at individual borders, could take a bit longer but everything should be in place before January 1, 2015.

In the meantime, SeaVisionBurma has provided a very good link - it is currently possible to drive around Myanmar coming from Thailand but you'd need to get in touch with MT&T in Naypyidaw for approval first.
