An international conference to discuss support for economic development in Burma will take place in Naypyidaw on Jan. 19-20, a senior Japanese Foreign Ministry official told the country’s Jiji Press. Ministerial-level officials from various nations are expected to attend the two-day meeting to hear economic development plans to be unveiled by the Burmese government. Naypyidaw representatives will discuss a legal framework and other necessary provisions for foreign investment. The Japanese delegation will be decided after the swearing in of its new Liberal Democratic Party-led government this week. Interest in Burma is growing around the world with Tokyo keen to be at the forefront of future possibilities, said the ministry official.
