Enjoying coffee this morning at Boonthavorn in Hua Hin and looking across the car park and noticed that the car parked next to mine had exactly the same registration plate - numbers and letters. Back in the UK this certainly would be illegal and shoudn't happen anyway, so is it the same in Thailand or is this a common occurence. My main worry would be that if this car was ever involved in some incident where the registration was taken and looked for that I could find myself in some sort of trouble.

My car is a 3 year old White Pajero and this car was a relatively new looking White Ford Focus driven by a young Thai male so apart from colour not exactly lookalikes but still gives me some concern. Any advice or suggestions?

Were they both Bangkok/ plates. If not then not identical.

As I said - identical. Same numbers and same letters which I cannot reproduce on here but I read them as saying NA which is what they look like. On pointing it out to the young Thai he just beamed like a Cheshire Cat before driving off.

Yes, but the small writing underneath or on top denotes the province. It's like having eg Arizona plates ABC123 and Florida plates ABC123 parked side by side.

Perhaps the small writing underneath wasn't the same because even very close up its difficult to read nor occured to me anyway, but my point still stands because if his car is involved in an incident those small letters would not be legible anyway unless being read from extremely close up whereas the large letters and numbers can be read from a fair distance away. Anyway its still the first time I've ever noticed anyone having the identical large letters and numbers and thanks for the quick replies.

...any Thai will rush to find and get the lottery ticket of the number...what is it?! w00t.gif

Probably why he was beaming when it was pointed out.. Seriously what would be the odds of that in any city, let alone a large one? Rather incredible in any proximity but right next to the OP's car? blink.png

Maybe his are fake because his white plates haven't arrived.

As said, is it another province ? You don't need to be close to see it's different.

Do you know or did see the Thai letters properly ? If not can you tell the difference between soh sua and loh ling or koh kwai and soh sa lah or choh chang and soh soh. You'd need to be closer to see the difference between them than to see the province is different.

Maybe the OP ought to check the front to make sure he still has both of his...

Yep, identical plates makes it hard for witnesses to give the police any useful information at the scene of the crime or altercation. blink.png
