NEC, a leading Japanese IT company, will open a branch in Rangoon in January 2013, according to Japan’s Nikkei business newspaper. The company will also open an office in Naypyidaw in the coming months, the report added. NEC will aim to provide IT infrastructure to the the growing number of Japanese companies entering the Burmese market, and will also seek orders for laying undersea cables. Fujitsu, a major rival, doesn’t have an office in Burma yet, but has already secured an order with the Daiwa Institute of Research and KDDI to develop a backbone IT network for Burma’s central bank.
