A Thai court has sentenced four people to up to 10 years in prison for their role in a human trafficking case that left 54 Burmese migrant workers dead. According to a report by AFP, the four were convicted on Thursday of gross negligence resulting in death and of breaking immigration laws. The Burmese workers, who were among 121 people crammed into a six-meter by 2.2-meter container, died while being transported to the Thai resort island of Phuket in August 2008. Three of the defendants have been released on bail pending their appeal, while a fourth remains in custody after failing to meet bail terms.
