I've got no idea. Bite me changed over time; if it comes back you'll have to ask which version or even a new one.

 

To me, Bite Me was best with Ewan as at the beginning, so just go to Prime Time BBQ and you've got the best Bite Me you'll get.

 

Edit: Oh, by the way I tried the Pho at the new place and it was pretty good. I wish they had some basil though. I'll be back to try other stuff at that place.

Yes and no. Many Thais go to the Korean BBQ places (often in malls) that cater more to Thai tastes. But when I go to more hard core authentication Korean places it's mostly Koreans.

Ok, maybe I do not know what hardcore Korean is.  I admit I have never been to one here, but several in BKK usually yes in the malls.  It seems to usually be a mix of Falang and?  Difficult for me to tell who.....:)

Try the Korean restaurant in North Pattaya north of Marina mall in the Burger King mall near Tiffany but not the Bibimbap chain as that one is more for Thai tastes. I like the one just called Korean restaurant further down from the Bibimbap chain same side.

Or the Bonchon place with it's sugar infused Korean based chicken which seems to be wildly popular.  A little change up would be welcomed.

I agree it's too sweet (even the HOT choice) but I'll admit that I like their chicken. It's all about the CRUNCH. I pair drumsticks with tofu soup ordered extra spicy. Obviously I wouldn't include Bonchon in hard core authentic Korean. It's a trendy chain thing.

 

When I say hard core, I don't mean places that are necessarily intimidating to westerners, though some are and many westerners are (let's face it) really easily intimidated by the unfamiliar. Usually there are pictures and menus largely translated to English. 

 

BTW, one of the Korean places I mentioned in the mostly Korean food mall with Burger King on the corner is actually Korean style CHINESE food which is a specific thing and I think very good but very different from a more standard "hard core" Korean restaurant.

Fair point and I don't like to see any business fail. I do think that success in Pattaya is usually underpinned by patronage from the home nation. I think Italian restaurants are an exception for some reason, but maybe not Korean.

In the last year or so there has been a veritable EXPLOSION of options in Pattaya to get actual authentic Chinese SICHUAN food.

 

It's truly remarkable but I doubt many readers of this forum are actually very interested in this.

So I have a request from the readers here. 

 

IF you would like to see a dedicated thread called something like ...

 

Sichuan food in Pattaya, where to get the good stuff?

 

that specializes in covering the now MANY local options for this, PLEASE click LIKE on this topic.

If not, then don't click like. 

 

No, I am not collecting likes. I don't need more likes and I'm not in any competition for likes.

 

I just thought that was a good way to get some good feedback on whether people want to see a thread like that.

 

If I do get a bunch of likes (not decided how many yet) to this post in a reasonable time period, I'll do it. If not, I won't.

I wandered down Naklua 29/1 yesterday evening and the street certainly seems to be picking up. There is a large 'Vietnamese' restaurant in the finishing stages of decoration. Bearing in mind that the tour busses frequent this street discharging their hoardes to eat it may be one of those joints.

Still on the same street I found this tiny Portuguese Pastel de Nata shop run by former policeman from the Alentejo. Charming chap and very welcoming. We were able to chat in Portuguese which was great as I don't get much practice these days.

 

The Pasteis de Nata are great and not as sweet as normal as he has reduced the sugar content.

The Chinese would go for these. I have eaten them in Macau (ex Portugese colony). If you think Pattaya is thronged with Chinese tour groups, you should see Macao. KFC do a more than passable version, but the best I have tasted were in Belem, just outside Lisbon. A tube of 6 were polished off in short order.

I wish the owner well; I shall be popping in to sample soon.

Glad to hear about these two (new?) places on Naklua 29/1. I would very rarely find myself wandering down that soi so those posts are yet more examples of the culinary value this thread can offer us local food lovers. We can't all be everywhere all the time, not even close. Folks ... please keep  on "discovering" and sharing these finds, especially ones off the main roads!

 

On that note, if someone does check out that Vietnamese restaurant on Naklua 29/1, can you let us know if it's a real restaurant (rather than only for tour groups) and some information about their menu? I'll do that eventually if nobody posts before then, but not before Songkran ends for sure.

Just happened to stop in 'Caffee Pascucci' in Harbor Mall yesterday for a coffee on the front of the 3rd floor. Nice little place, nice decor. Had a browse through the menu and ended up trying a pizza marguerite for ฿200, delicious with a nice crispy base. Coffee was good too. I will be going back.

 

Hope the place lasts but not easy in that mall, however, there were some other customers in there at the same time as me.

Just taken a stroll along the Soi; here is my feedback:

The Viet restaurant has no menu yet or tables and chairs. A couple of step ladders suggests internal decorating is ongoing. Two portly gents were locking the place up; one European and one Eurasian. They were speaking in Russian or another Slav language. A lady from SEA was with them. It is a very big place and may well be a tour group venue.

The Portugese custard tart place is open. Alas, he was out of stock and asked me to come back in 15 minutes; he was baking a new batch. I prefer the tarts cold, so maybe another time. Price is 40 Baht each, 115 for 3 and further discounts for larger quantities. This is a hole in the wall operation for takeaway only.

Thread about Chinese restaurants ok, but sichuan seems stupid to me as most people just don't care about specific chinese food. Chinese food is just chinese food for 99% of the people and it will always be like this.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not interested in starting an everything Chinese thread and it does appear the interest is soft for a Sichuan thread. So anyway people as usual are invited to continue to post here on this grab bag thread about any sort of restaurant including general Chinese and specific Chinese such as Sichuan.

Thanks for sharing your view but we've been down this road before. This thread does not enforce specific template rules other than that the content should be something about Pattaya area restaurants. If people want to put the GPS info in their directions that's great but it will never be required. Heck even knowing the name of the restaurant isn't even required.

I might be a monkey, but I drove on Central Pattaya and was not able to find the Pho restaurant, what couldn't have happened with GPS location THAT EVERYBODY IN THIS WORLD IS ABLE TO KNOW BY JUST 1 FINGER CLICK !

I agree it would be nice with a restaurant map with GPS locations . I think we had a map over Pattaya restaurants some years ago , not sure where.   Anyway I will do my best when it's time for a review from me. 

 

Regarding pizzas so many options in Pattaya , big size for under 250 baht , you pay for the location at Harbor Mall .

This new restaurant opens TOMORROW. (At least that's what I was told.)

Even though it is not yet open I received a very, very warm welcome from the Chinese speaking staff (that don't speak English or Thai, can't get more "authentic" than that, ha ha). Warm as in their hands were all over me. I guess I give off a vibe of really loving Chinese food (they're right about that). Yeah, that's the ticket.

 

Anyway, the only menus are the pictures at the front entrance on the restaurant wall. No English.

 

This is a very limited menu! Not going to judge whether that's good or bad until I taste the food, but that's the thing, it's kind of unclear what the food is even with the pictures.

 

I tried to get info on whether their food had a specific Chinese provincial origin but not possible with the language issue. I'm pretty sure based on the pictures it is not Sichuan. 

 

Basically your choices are --

 

Some kind of soup noodle thing probably with a meat, under 100 baht the budget option. The soup is not a style you're likely familiar with based on the picture. I wasn't anyway.

 

SETS of "something"

Is it a hot sizzling plate? Is it a hot pot type stew? Or something else?

Beats me. 

Anyway you can get a small size of whatever it is or a larger set including a small possible soup bowl and soft drink. Not sure if the larger set gets you a bigger portion of the featured thing. 

 

One choice has pork. Once choice has chicken.

Large size under 200 baht. 

 

Also on offer are a small number of side uncooked dishes like mushrooms, which is why I thought it might be some kind of hot pot.

As I said in my original post it's on the 3rd floor of Harbor Mall, you need GPS location for that?!

 

I have never noticed the place before as it hasn't been open long. Their FB page doesn't yet to seem to be updated correctly. The pizza was ฿200 all in, 8" or whatever, certainly not small.
