Contact Myanmar Travel & Tours, the Myanmar government tour agency. For the right price anything is possible in Myanmar. For you to be allowed to do this with the permits, and guides needed, expect a cost in the middle to top five figure range. Most that try to do this, because of the cost, have some documentary, or movie venture planned. The cost would be the same for a private purpose, so don't expect cheaper prices because you just want to drive to India. The route covers all but two closed areas for travel.

I have dealt with MT&T in the past, going into closed areas, and from my experience the price I listed might be a littie low, given the ethnic turmoil happening on the last part of the route, and the government's expected distrust of your real intentions.

Hi:

I´m going to Burma in the next two months, I know that is possible, I have a Thai friend that did it.

My plan for start, is go as more near India I can, besause after that i want to go India and travel arroud.

But for sure, yo will need a: Thai Drive License + The Blue Book (registration car) + Letter from the Plates translated into English (with stickers is enough.), I think for go Burma, No need Passport for the car (but for sure, better make one.)

It is allowed if you receive permission. Yesterday a group of 20 Singaporean motorcyclists travelled via Myawaddy all the way to Yangon/Mandalay/Inle Lake etc. using a police escort. They received permission from MTT the government agency to pass through restricted areas even though most of their route is not restricted, but the route between just outside Myawaddy to just east of Hpa-an normally is and of course to get to Yangon etc. overland it is necessary to pass through this restricted area.

This is interesting a various levels. Of course, the vehicle permits and then the restricted areas you mention. In addition, Myawaddy is not usually a transit point for people to cross into the country, so I wonder what kind of visas they had.

That's true but Myawaddy is the most likely crossing point that once opened beyond the police checkpoint, will allow full access to Yangon from Thailand for the first time (unless the 8-lane Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi-Davoy expressway opens first). I think the visa is the easiest thing to obtain (relative to the permission required to travel past restricted areas) and my guess would be they still arrived on a visa-on-arrival rather than a full visa, but unfortunately I didn't get around to asking them about that (we merely talked about their itinerary, police escort and MTT permission).

I'm thinking that because they have a guide and police escort throughout their entire journey that they likely don't have a need for a proper visa per-se as their itinerary is very detailed and specific, so their entry stamp is identical to what your everyday visa-runners get, and their exit stamp will show the date they return to Thailand (as they will return via the same crossing).
