Looking For Advice/suggestiolns For Mobile Wifi Router For True Network

Featured Replies

i am about 40 mins SW of udoon thani and have seen true network 3g speeds on friends iphone.

i need to hotspot an ipod and android device and will also get a wifi tablet. i was going to get a 3g tablet but have been advised to get a mobile wifi router. do True offer these or shld i but elsewhere. my aim is low power consumption first hence non 3g tablet... especially if i can surf using ipod.

any advice or suggestions on such a unit...

Your Android phone may be able to serve as a Mobile AP. Can you share any details re: the exact make/model/rev. of Android SW?

There are many 3G router options: ones that accept a SIM directly, ones that accept a USB aircard, which has the SIM installed.

A MiFI device may meet your low power requirements?

Assuming you want to use TrueMove H then make sure your choice supports (minimally) 850 MHz 3G.

Be careful of the descriptions, as I have the ZTE MF60 and it doesn't support TRUE/DTAC 3G as suggested on the Totalaircard website, but AIS.

But the Huawei e585u-82 seems to cover all bases.

thankyou lomatopo and jiu jitsu.

i bave a samsung galaxy swhich sadly does not have the 850 mhz band and the trueshop tried one of their sims to make sure too.

i like those two websites...very handy. looks like thehuawei mifi is the way to go

one quick follow up ques... the listed routers talk about windows and mac osx operating systems. i have neither...no computer but will buy a tablet same time as wifi routeer///. will these portable wifi routers operate/install on a tablet easiy...or shld i get a windows tablet altuhogh windows 8 is not mentioned as being compatible...this is for the initial setting up..

It is advantageous to have a Windows PC for the initial setup. Plug in to the PC, allow the software to install/ Then the default address is 192.168.1.1

But otherwise, if you won't have access to a borrowed machine, you can ask the vendor to set it up for you before sending. He/she can add all of the relevant APN, but set TRUE H as the Default.

I have the ZTE MF30. It is clearly marked on the box, 850/2100 MHz. I'm using it now but I wouldn't recommend ZTE. It has shut down by itself and refused to restart. Plugging it into the charger overnight seems to get it going again. I am now using a double plug USB cable and so far so good.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S1 variant (AT&T Captivate) which has been a brilliant phone from the get-go. While it has a single core, 1 GHz, it currently runs Android 4.2.1 (custom ROM) seamlessly, and since it supports 850/1900/2100 MHz 3G I have been using it as a MiFi device (Mobile AP) on TrueMove H when we travel to more rural areas - where there is a TrueMove H 3G presence. We usually have 3 ~ 4 devices 'hanging' off it via WiFi, and (re-) up to a single monthly plan as required. It does run a bit hot, and does need to be plugged in to the AC, but always performs well.

I also use it in the U.S. on T-Mobile, pre-paid. Since T-Mo re-farmed some AT&T 1900 MHz 3G I now get 10/4 Mbps on the $3/day (unlimited voice, text, 3G [200MB FUP]) which suits me for my frequent, but short visits to the Boston, MA metro area, even with the snow!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the ZTE mf 62. Very few problems outside of an occasional disconnect or shutdown. Avoid using multiple power adapters (use only one type every time). Taking out the battery, holding the power button for a few seconds, and then turning back on the device seems to solve any shutdown problems. Not sure if this is firmware related or not, and perhaps they have fixed it in their next model (I think the 72 or 82).
