Seats Molded To Asians, Logically

Featured Replies

I am thinking about a medium sized car, Japanese brand. I find many seats for me, average height and size European, are too short , not enough support for the thighs and too narrow in the shoulder width. This seems particularly true for Nissan where the seat upholstery is too soft for my taste and, much worse, I can feel the metal in the back rest.

What is your experience?

Mitsubishi Mirage is MUCH worse than the Nissan March/Almera. at least for me.

Have you tried the Ford Focus? It's arguably the best in the medium-sized segment right now anyway, and was designed primarily to service the US market, followed by EU and AU - all people of roughly the same size/shape ;)

I drove the brio a short distance, but it was fine. Yes, interior is lousy - the best thing about the brio was the fuel economy. That wasn't enough to make me consider it:) I agree about the focus being the best 'budget' car here at the moment. Let's hope all these sales from ford makes them become more efficient in their service.

Service is exactly the point, ford Focus I had been eying with, but a good service station in Chiang Mai??

Also heard that spare parts for non-Japanese cars are much more expensive

Not sure what the service is like from American Motors in CNX, but I do know there's a few posters here that have bought from them so maybe they can chime in?

As for parts costs though, you can refer to Ford's own website:

Regular parts look reasonable - I'd be more worried about major items like air cond compressors, gearboxes (how much is a twin clutch?), cv joints, drive shafts, etc. Hopefully it would never come to that.

Very helpful info, IMHO. Another subject= very roughly only , what are is the range of annual cost of running a medium sized car?

Using the Focus again as a guide, click the links here for PDF's with scheduled servicing costs:

On top of that you'll have fuel and insurance/registration.

Insurance will be somewhere between 16K-20K depending on model.

Annual registration around 4-5K

Fuel based on the way you drive and how many KM's you do, as a guide both the 1.6L and 2.0L 6AT powershift Focus models manage around 15KM/L, so with E10 91 Gasohol will cost around 2.4 Baht/KM.

I think it's just a case of cheap car = crap seats

Though the original seats in my own Yaris were actually quite decent (til I swapped them for buckets :D )

I drove today in a Jazz, had driven it last in Germany, was very pleased at that time. Today I was shocked to feel the backrest frame as uncomfortably as in the Nissan. Surprising because Asians tend to get bigger too, nowadays.
