EC mulls using Thaksin as lecturer

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Election Commission chairman Apichart Sukhagganond has admitted the EC had discussed inviting ex-pm Thaksin Shinawatra as a guest speaker for class 4 students in the EC's advanced course on political development and elections.

Apichart said the students had proposed Thaksin give his talk through Skype and he thought there was nothing wrong about the idea as students should get well-rounded opinions for the political development of the country.

Election Commissioner Sodsri Satayatham said the EC committee in charge of drawing up a curriculum for the course invited Squadron Leader Prasong Sunsiri as guest speaker. Students said, hoping for well-rounded information, they wanted to hear from Thaksin also.

She said the decision whether to invite Thaksin rested with the committee in charge of curriculum and the five EC commissioners. She said the committee had not yet reached any decision on the matter.

Nothing about this election commission surprises me , they seem to come up with some la la land idea's, nothing better than students to sit back and be lectured by a crook, even though the students themselves requested this , maybe the little smart <deleted> are taking the Micky out of everyone or someone. How drollcheesy.gif

What would be the topic of the lecture? "1001 ways to bend, twist and break electoral law and regulations?"

What a joke, Thaksin's parties have been dissolved twice for electoral fraud, and in the last election they were not, I believe, for fear of his Red Shirt pressure group going on a rampage if PTP would had been sanctioned for the many gross and blatant breaches of electoral regulations.

When will this bull-sh1t with Thaksin - Thaksin -Thaksin come to an end. He get more paper space as a convicted fugitive than the current leaders of Thailand - then I suppose this is Thailand and could you expect anything different

Isn't it refreshing to see the youth of today embrace the man that so many Thais love and revere?

Rather than hang about street corners combing pomade and brylcreme into their hair, and engaging in do wop contests as did the hooligans from Europe back in an earlier era, Thailand's youth want to be a part of their nation. thumbsup.gif

That would be like the police getting drug traffickers to lecture recruits.

Sent from my HTC phone.

Uhh, they do that.

In any case, the former PM understands the election process in Thailand, and his party did win a landslide mandate to govern, which is something the Democrats never achieved.

That must be the reason the former PM became a criminal on the run.

It should absolutely be used to also highlight the the course-sponsoring Election Commission's completely toothless banning of politicians for electoral fraud by its worst offender.

The irony of the EC inviting someone that broke so many of its own regulations to lecture the youth of tomorrow is beyond compare.

.

Well, no worries as I don't think you will be attending the university course. You won't need to compare.

A very good idea, IF there would be a guarantee to aks Thaksin a lot of awkward questions with the obligation to answer. Thaksin should not know the questions in advance? To put critcal questions to pujais? Nearly impossible in Thailand.

Then forget it, Thaksin would only have one intention: indoctrination. To give objectiv instruction is impossible for him.

A typical PT goal. The sheeps are not able to think, only the shepherd coffee1.gif

The internaional foreign affairs community doesn't share your view. Have ytou informed them?

I believe the common position was that the man did not have a fair trial. This is why he was given unfettered access to many countries subsequent to the illegal military coup and Abhisit's appointment as PM.

Had the former PM's conviction been perceived as the product of a fair judicial process, he would have been blocked from entering Switerland, France and Germany.

You are right - certain countries lack of ethics and morals are being shown for what they are. Swiss banks being find for helping tax evaders, money launderers and helping fix the Libor rate. No wonder they welcomed your hero! The others, including the UK and US all edging their bets - and showing who they think really runs things.
