Thai Kasikorn Bank opened a representative office in Rangoon on Wednesday, joining the growing number of Thai corporations that are establishing a presence in Burma, The Nation reports. Senior executive vice president Somkiat Sirichatchai said the new office would help the Kasikorn Bank partner with 11 local banks in order to study the Burmese market prior to opening up its own local branch. Kasikorn Bank predicts that Burma’s gross domestic product will grow with 6.3 percent in 2013, with export growth of 11 percent, including the export of natural gas, textiles and teak.
