I have a Dell M1710 XPS laptop I want to fix. It is still a very powerful machine because it was a high end gaming laptop. I'm trying to source a new 160 (or less) IDE hard disk for it. So many were made in Thailand but finding older tech is difficult. Anyone know of a source in Thailand? I know I can get them from outside Thailand.

Thanks

If you go to crucial.com, just put your specs in. Says that are HDD and ssd 'updates' available for your comp,

of course you don't have to buy crucial.com product. Too easy, AA

I bought a new ide hdd in Panthip, BangKapi about a month ago. 2 or 3 floor - can't remember the shop name, but I can find it again wink.png Cheap and with warranty. They said they always keep a couple of new ide drives in stock for old tech cronies like me !! w00t.gif

just found the receipt. . Call 0819006635 or 021873053 and speak to Chai. He has some English .. 250Gb was 2050Baht

If you can use a sata, consider the Seagate Momentus 2.5 hybrid drive, 7200 RPM. I have one in a desktop and it is significantly faster than a conventional HDD

Update: It did take a SATA I put in a 500GB drive and the laptop works great. Suprised considering it sat for 2 years unused.

Thanks all for the help!

But now your battery is probably stoofed! Have a go at fully charging it (in so far as you can), then put it in the freezer for 1-7 days. Repeat that cycle a couple of times, might get battery capacity back to 50% of original. AA
