As far as I know, yes, but...

You need a Netflix account at home and you need to use a proxy that shows your location as being in US,,/ Canada.

speed will be an issue, as well as cost.

If he needs a proxy, then it's not available in Thailand.

credit where credit is due:

You'll still need to set up an Netflix account. I can't speak for a Canadian acct., but my U.S. streams like a charm with Hola.

Seems to work better via Chrome, but I still get a decent picture via IE.

FYI, works on my LAN connected PC and all of my wifi connected laptops.

You can use a VPN.

No, Netflix can be played in Thailand, but not with a Thai IP address.

As others have noted, you'll need to use a proxy or VPN account that will give you an IP address in a country where Netflix provides service, like the U.S., Canada and others. I believe, you'll also need a credit card and matching credit card billing address in the same country in order to pay for the account monthly.

Ideally, for video streaming purposes, whatever proxy or VPN service you use, you'd want to be able to get a consistent download speed of a couple of (2-3) Mbits per second for best viewing.

Apart from proxies and VPNs, there are also services like Unblock-US and Overplay that provide DNS re-routing and accomplish the same result. Usually those will get you into Netflix and a specified list of other video services. But unlike VPNs and proxies, those DNS services will only work with the sites they specifically list, whereas proxies and VPNs will work with any site from the country where their IP is located.

I use the Hidemyip.net one that someone posted recently (with a coupon code to half the cost).

Works great with the Roku. The problem with Netflix is trying to pay. They only allow US cards and block virtual cards apparently.

Having said that, looking at their site I have pretty well all the movies I want.

It's pretty easy to get around the U.S. payment for Netflix...and Holu is free. Save your money.

Netflix: Pray tell.

Hulu: Hulu Plus is not.

Netflix is now operating in a variety of countries beyond the U.S., and I believe they have different sites for the different countries served. So presumably, all those people outside the U.S. are paying using credit cards local to their own country.

I'm particularly interested in the US variety as my VPN goes there. Not much interest in the UK as I get most of the programming I want to watch via satellite (i.e. sport).

I think the point was, Netflix is no longer limited to just the U.S. So if someone here happens to have a credit card and address in one of the other countries Netflix serves, they should be fine subscribing and paying using those and getting an IP address from that locale. Thus they don't only allow U.S. credit cards, at least for non-US country subscribers.

For someone who doesn't come from or have a presence in one of those Netflix served countries, the IP address in the U.S. or similar is pretty easy to come by. Getting a U.S. bank card and billing address is probably a bit more involved, but I've seen prior posts discussing that subject.

The OP talks about having worked in Canada in the past, and Canada is one of Netflix's other countries.

Despite the obstacles it is facing, Netflix still manages to resonate with Canadians. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission last year estimated that about 10 per cent of adults subscribed to the service since its launch in 2010. Analysts believe that number is actually double.

Halifax, in particular, is a Netflix stronghold, with 40 per cent of households subscribing, Evers said.
