Reading Old Windows Help Files.

I've found a little program which would be very useful to me if I could only read the help file that goes with it. It was written back in the day and uses the old help file format which the W8 help program won't read. I've tried downloading the official Msoft update but it won't install for some reason. Are there any other programs which will read old Windows help files?

Which old help format are you talking about? Is it WinHelp (.hlp)? Or Microsoft Compiled Help (.chm)?

It's a .hlp file.

Do not know which MS update you installed, but KB917607 refers. If that was what you already installed sorry for repeat.

I do not have Win 8 but it works on Win 7.

I tried that but it won't install. I have Windows 8 Pro installed over Windows 7 as an upgrade.

Did you get the right version (32 or 64 bit)?

One solution might be to convert the .hlp files to .chm or other format that you can read. Searching Google for "~convert hlp" (without quotes) brings up a few conversion program you could try.
