I bought my vehicle on 3rd March last year. Got my white number plate about three weeks later. Now I've just noticed that my road tax is not due until 20th March whilst I expected it to be due 3rd March. So does this mean that whilst you keep your vehicle on red plates you don't pay road tax? If so next time I'll keep them longer.

Your red plates are only street legal for 30 days. sad.png

There must be a lot of illegals about then.........................

Seems a bit strange, say the average roadtax is 4000Baht/yr (mine is 8000+) and the average time to get number plates is 3months, so the government loose 1000Baht on each vehicle, then just with the extra 100,000 new vehicle that is quite a lot of money. Maybe it doesn't work like that though, but if it did it comes to 100,000,000Baht per year + a lot more..

I bought my vehicle early April last year and number plate was issued 5th June. My road tax in due for renewal 5/06/2013.

This is a little incorrect. The rego book and label were issued on 5th June. The number plate took about 6 months.

Looks to me like the road tax can not be charged till the registration number is known.

Is the CORRECT answer!

Once you have your tax sticker and reciept, the dealer should remove the red plates regardless if the white plates are not ready yet. Your vehicle is registered, tax paid and any red plates that were fitted are probably well past their 30-day validity anyway.
