Major insurgent movement expected ahead of March 28 talks with BRN

BANGKOK, 14 March 2013 (NNT) - Intelligence reports suggest that core leaders of rebel groups operating in the Deep South of Thailand are set to hold a secret meeting ahead of the government’s scheduled talks with the BRN on March 28th.

According to intelligence, the meeting of insurgent groups is expected to take place on March 18th in Kelantan state of Malaysia.

At least 400 youth members of the Permudan Baru rebel group are also expected to receive training in unspecified locations to spread unrest in the southern border provinces. The emerging group comprises newly trained insurgents who will replace captured and slain RKK militants.

Another report stated that a series of major insurgent attacks is due to take place in the middle of April, raising concerns for security personnel in the region.

Heavy security presence is expected to be maintained for the next two months.

The report came after the National Security Council told the press that the BRN was scaling back activities while most separatists were set to call for the establishment of a special administration zone in the Deep South.

.

A rebel group known as Warriors of Fatoni that is opposed to the proposed talks has ordered hundreds of its members to be on standby to begin various attacks across the South beginning today.

.

.

This evening, Chalerm announced he has cancelled his trip to Malaysia to discuss the South issue on March 28.

No new date to address the issue was set.

Chalerm said he was needed in Bangkok to help ramrod push the Multi-Trillion Baht Infrastructure Scheme through Parliament.

He concluded by saying that Yingluck ordered him to cancel the trip and to remain in Bangkok.

Politics obstructing peace

An outbreak of peace in southern Thailand is still awaiting goodwill gestures from the Thai government as the main principal. To understand the prospects of that peace in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces, it is first necessary to comprehend Bangkok’s latest motive. However, doing so encourages more pessimism than optimism. The government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had approached Malaysia to host peace talks with rebel groups. Malaysia obliged, as it did before, on the understanding that any peace had to be worked out among the Thai principals themselves.

Then, in the midst of preparatory bilateral meetings, without being asked, the Thai side let it be known that it “would not rule out” a role for Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck’s brother and deposed former prime minister. Either Yingluck’s government had decided to appoint Thaksin as its representative, or he had volunteered for the role. Experience suggests the latter, plus the whole initiative having secretly originated with him.

That just about sums up the meagre prospects of any real peace. Thaksin’s government had presided over the gruesome killings of local activists in Pattani in separate incidents in 2004.

What happens to the Bombers today? Are they a different group or can not read about peace treaty or do not not care?

Please tell me I thought.

The concern is that the younger generation of more radicalised separatists / insurgents (Juwae) are apparently carrying out many of the armed attacks. It is claimed the Juwae have an alternate cell command structure to the the older generation of leaders who are engaging in the negotiations. Should the exploratory talks make progress, the challenge to engage the Juwae for cessation of violence will be critical, as well as the army's co-operation in following political orders.

So why talk to the old people they have no power they should only talk to the Young Leaders who can fight

The old leaders can only talk drink and play chess

So confusing.

The Secretary-General firmly stated that the government would continue its peace talks with the BRN insurgent group

This from yesterday

Yingluck said she did not think the incident had anything to do with the

peace talks, which have not really started. "The atmosphere of the

negotiations is different. Please do not link the two. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/631337-p-m-orders-tighter-security-in-deep-south/

Southern attacks no relation with BRN peace talks.

This Thaksin is involved in the peace process story was only meant to get votes for the Bangkok governor election. You won't hear anything about it anymore.

We should not underestimate how important this election was for Thaksin. They used many tricks to mislead the voters and even sent Thaksin's lapdog form the DSI, Special Investigator Tharit, after the Dems. Even Ponsapat's sparkling eyes couldn't do the job. Thaksin's side-kick little Oak's shirt wasn't red enough either.
