Issue With True?

Hi all, its rare that I encounter problems that I can't solve myself but this is one. I am currently signed up to a one year contract with true. However, we moved apt not so long ago and since then I haven't been able to use the wifi in the new apt. The service provider is True in both cases but all I get is the check DNS settings page when I try and open a webpage. Is this a case of my laptop being registered with a specific address, preventing me connecting to another with the same service provider? I can use any other provider such as tot with no problems, but when I go home I just get the no connection check dns settings. If I could change them myself I would. Help required here.

Can be done yourself quite easily..........

Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network.Click Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).Click Properties. - this is the Internet Protocol window. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the desired DNS server(s) in the space(s) provided.

I live on the south end of Jomtien Beach. True has no WiFi service here so the "unlimited" service doesn't exist here. If you have pre-paid, when you use up the fair usage, True will eat what credit you have and then cut you off. I don't know how the post paid works.

Do you mean True has no 3G service in your area? True (TrueMove H) does have prepaid 3G+ packages with 3GB for B799, 5GB for B899 and 10GB for B1699 after which it is shaped to lower (EDGE/GPRS) speed.

They also have 1GB for B350 and 3GB for B650 that behave as you describe: No shaping to a lower speed when you reach 1GB/3GB, simply you are cut off.

I have Truemove-H and yes, I do subscribe to the prepaid 30 day packages. I have roaming enabled and once in a while the 3G flashes on but the speed is still quite slow. I also have post paid My Cat at 750 baht per month and that is pretty good upcountry. I'm using that right now at my condo in south Jomtien. It is even slower than Truemove-H. It appears that this is as good as it gets in this area. There is NO True WiFi signal here.

I should say that Truemove-H 3G is also pretty good when I am upcountry. I think both cannot support the traffic here whereas there are apparently fewer subscribers (users) upcountry. What Truemove-H describes as unlimited is BS because the unlimited applies to WiFi after the 3G fair usage is used up.

If it's like AIS, and I think it is, once you reach your 3, 5, and 10G limit, it's throttled to 385Kbps which is actually just a little faster than 2G (EDGE GPRS), hence why they call it "unlimited 3G". A kind of marketing ploy that would be illegal in any modern country.

I'm still confused what you mean. True WiFi is what is offered in shopping malls, office buildings, condos which subscribe, etc. It's not what supplements your 3G access when you exceed the fair usage limit.

What TrueMove H describes as unlimited is literally "unlimited internet access" with the first xGB (1GB, 3GB, 5GB, etc) at 3G+ speeds, and after that at a lower speed on 2G/EDGE/GPRS/etc. My plan shapes down to 384Kbps, some plans shape down to 128Kbps. My plan includes a limited number of True WiFi hours in addition.

Simply put, you've subscribed to the "wrong" plan. You've subscribed to a single, non-recurring 30-day (monthly actually) hard-capped plan (*900*3x#)

You may want to change to a monthly, recurring plan which offers unlimited internet usage, albeit with a FuP speed of say 128 Kbps once you reach your limit of 2/3/5/7 GB (*900*4x#).

Easy, peasy.

Okay, now I understand your situation. The 3G plans in Thailand are nothing, if not confusing. Luckily I am grandfathered on a rather good (postpaid) TrueMove H plan with 3GB of 3G+ that shapes to 384Kbps.
