Arguably one of the best U.S. television dramas of recent years, all seven seasons of "The Shield" are now available for streaming online via Amazon Prime Instant Video for U.S. folks.

AFAIK, it's the first time this cops series has been offered for streaming online since it finished its run on Fox's FX network. Reportedly, the series is now also available online via the paid monthly streaming service Hulu Plus.

As for Amazon Prime, "The Shield" now joins the full-run series episodes of "24" and "The West Wing," the PBS series "Frontline, the comedy series "Ally McBeal" among the TV series offerings there.

U.S. IP address and Amazon Prime membership required for accessing Amazon's streaming service, although non-Amazon Prime members can also buy online access to individual episodes or seasons of the series.

These are all available as torrent downloads from many different sites.

Tnx for the reminder to try this again. Compared to The Wire, it comes up short IMO. But there's nothing much on these days . . . .

The Shield was pretty good, creator/runner Shawn Ryan has done some other shows I liked: "The Unit" (with David Mamet), "Terriers" (brilliant but no pick-up), even "The Chicago Code" was OK. Kurt Sutter was also involved with The Shield, and his "Sons of Anarchy" is OK. Michael Chiklis (from Lowell, MA!) can be seen in "Vegas", and had a good turn in the recent Jason Statham actioner, "Parker".

I like "Justified" (Elmore Leonard fan here), and it has Walter Goggins (Detective Shane Vendrell) in a much better role - he has a good role in "Lincoln", BTW. "Southland" is oddly reminiscent of "The Shield".

Thanks for that. Must catch-up with Sons of Anarchy again. I always wanted to get into Justified because of Goggins. Love Southland too. Blue Bloods is another good one. Must look into Terriers, The Chicago Code, and Parker.

BTW, it's WALTON Goggins, not Walter....

Television audiences can see the talented actor on FX's hit series, "Justified" (2010). The show, which was honored with the highly esteemed Peabody Award in 2011, had the highest-rated premiere for FX since "The Shield". Goggins stars in the pivotal role of "Boyd Crowder", long-time friend, yet ultimate nemesis of "U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens", played by Timothy Olyphant. Jeremy Egner of The New York Times writes, "Olyphant may embody the steely-eyed, white-hatted hero on "Justified" (2010), but Walton Goggins supplies the show's tortured soul". Elmore Leonard,
executive producer and writer of the short story, "Fire in the Hole", on which the show is based, says of "Boyd", "There has never been a more
poetic bad guy on television in the way that he sees the world".

....

In his limited free time, the busy actor enjoys traveling the world and has spent time in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Central America and
Morocco, as well as India last spring. Goggins is an avid photographer and has captured many of his journeys on film.

Interesting divergence...

The four episides of the original 1990 BBC mini-series "House of Cards" are available for free streaming for Amazon Prime members.

The first season of the U.S. version from 2013 premiered on Netflix just in February of this year. It looks like Netflix committed to a two-season, 26 episodes run of the series staring Kevin Spacey.

For those who aren't paying for Netflix or Amazon Prime Instant video, just came across the news the other day that the first and second seasons of The Shield are now available for streaming, with a U.S. IP address, via Sony's Crackle video service. I really have never used it much, but as I recall, it's free but has commercial interruptions.
