Six years ago I built my retirement home adjacent to my wife's home on a nice plot of land 16 meters wide by 45 meters deep. My construction cost was 1.2 million baht, before upgrades, walls, iron gate, kitchen, water misting system, basketball court, automatic garage gate , car park, waterfall, furniture, paintings and landscape.

Each and every visit sometimes twice a year from Santa Monica, California we manage to bring luxury items those include my ping eye 2 golf clubs, weber BBQ, hammock, nba authentic basketballs, car care supplies to keep my 2010 Mazda 3 sport clean.

This trip, I have seen so much improvements in the quality of my life, as I travel every morning to Major Grand Hotel, Chumpae, to get my workout in, usually by 6 am I am there for two hours. Then near my home is a new basketball court adjacent to the large lake with two glass backboards a beautiful location for my favorite pastime.

This trip I had to replace my old UBC box, this time I had to buy the new one since I am here only a month at a time it cost me 6900 baht, but allows my Tv receive over 150 channels, 14 in hd resolution. Recently I moved my stepson back to Thailand and installed 3bbb and invested 12000 baht to send the hard wire line into my home. This trip our iPads and iPhones are working flawlessly as we just need to pay 600 baht a month for prepaid monthly service.

This trip I brought my new son, just shy of 8 months to meet his Grandma and his mothers side of his family, he is showing a lot of emotion and I am proud to instill his roots as his mother decided against putting him on the house registration as he has dual passports, as she is afraid he will be drafted one day if she registers him this trip.

Lastly, I have had good luck with Bangkok Insurance in filling a claim as a rock put a chip in my front windshield and they will replace it and it will not effect my future insurance and I will still receive my 30% discount on my annual premiums. Also my Goodyear tire were defective, as my 3 year car has only 7000 km, and the other day I took my car to rotate, install nitrogen and align my car. The tire shop showed me my tires were defective, as the were not a Goodyear dealer so they help me with the dealer in khon Kaen, Tirepro.

Goodyear rep in Bangkok, who speaks good English is hopefully going to credit my purchase of those two out of round tires tomorrow, however, the require they inspect it and need one week to process my claim.

As I complete my post, I have seen so much improvements in the infrastructure and quality of my daily lifestyle, herein my small rural community.

Lastly, I am happy to mote that with my wifi I am able to stream Howard Stern on my Sirus radio which I can receive via my iPad or iPhones, so my life when I am here is getting better. You would never know that I live in Thailand inside my compound , but my neighbors and chickens and Issan life is just everywhere yoû look!

That problem with tyres going out-of-round is something that has caught me out twice. I suppose it affects people like me who are away a lot, even though I try to ensure my pick-up is on blocks for much of the time. Last time I bought Michelin which have a longer guarantee.

As you say, Isaan is changing and there are more Western facilities all the time. I've stayed at the Major Grand several times and it gives excellent value for a short break.

Nice to read something with such a positive outlook on life: most people from California tend to be fairly positive I find.

I've spent the day listening to Steely Dan (after a quick reprise of Ten Years After as a salute to Alvin Lee who died yesterday). Always find West Coast rock positive and uplifting too biggrin.png
