Gay German May Have Overdosed On Viagra-Like Pills
PATTAYA:--A 56-year-old German was found dead in his luxury Jomtien condominium. There were no signs of a struggle, as officers found sexual potency pills and a male sex toy. The building’s security guard said the German enjoyed sex with many men, and apparently died four days ago. Police suspect the victim died from overdosing on pills.

The body of the foreign man was found in a 14th floor room in the condominium number 339/732, Condo View Talay 1, Jomtien. The body was found by the condo security guard, identified as Mr. Thada Thammapradit , 55 years old. After discovering the German’s body, Mr. Thada notified Pol. Col. Suwarn Chiawnawinthawatch, director of Muang Pattaya police station.

At the scene, police found the victim, identified as Mr. Theo Schitz, 56 years old. He was lying naked on his bed, with his feet hanging from the side of the bed. Police did not find any traces of the victim being beaten.

What shoddy journalism. No proof whatsoever of an overdose of anything. Complete conjecture.

Add to that a security guard with X-ray vision.

Yes, people have heart attacks without taking Viagra. Most people taking Viagra don't have heart attacks unless they have preexisting conditions indicating they shouldn't take Viagra. They refer to a dildo in his room, in his drawer, not in his personal cavity. A colorful find and irrelevant to the case. The viagra is neither here nor there as only a medical examination can show if he even had taken any Viagra before his death. Much less OVERDOSING on them which they shamelessly suggest he has done even before knowing he even took a SMALL dose of Viagra. Amazingly bad journalism. Almost shocking. An insult to this man, his family, and disrespectful to gay people, a wake up call to people who don't think there is homophobia in Thailand. RIP to a man who deserves dignity at this time, not this scandalously over the top so called journalism. Note the picture of Viagra pills in the article.

Nothing homophobic about this. If the man was straight, and brought lots of girls back to the condo, then it would be reported just the same. There is nothing homophobic about reporting if someone is straight or gay. Nothing wrong with being gay, so why do you say reporting it is homophobic. Thailand is a lot more tolerant of gays than UK or USA.

I'm sure you believe that.

errrmmm... I think the PDN article linked in the OP leaves out a lot of facts that were likely censored out by PDN to not shock the farang audience.

I saw this covered on Thai TV (TMN) and I think I can repeat what was said on there:

- the guy sometimes took ladies, ladyboys and sometimes men to his room

- in the night when he supposedly died, he had a gay-looking male with him

- the body showed injuries and fluids related to recent sexual intercourse (that was described with full details)

The footage showed the man lying naked on the bed, showed the dildo in the drawer and the pills.

So the conclusion is that he most probably sustained a heart attack (maybe induced by the pain from the injury) while doing what he liked and died.

There are worse ways to go if you ask me.

The guy who was with him must be very shaken.

RIP Mr. Schlitz. Wouldn't it be possible to overdose a man with Viagra? A good way to get rid of somebody...

No more blood circulation problems for him.- wai.gif

Don't know why old guys like him take sex stimulants. One of the best parts of growing old (like me) is that it frees you of chasing sex all the time. So much better to have a cup of tea and a cake than fumbling around in the dark - especially in Thailand where the sex act is less than satisfying - glad it's almost all over for me. Right - back to the digestives (chocolate ones today - yippeee!).

huh?

how do you get your endorphine doses then?

yes I agree with Dave Jones and cannot see the problem with this article. As he rightly points out, he is reporting an incident and is using the information provided to him /her by the authorities, in this instance, probably the Police. This is normal chain of events. Dave rightly states that the body has been taken for forensic examination to determine the course of death. /again totally in accordance with normal practice.

Sorry 'card' but I am 60 plus and thankful for the assistance that modern medication can provide - if you prefer a cup of tea to sex, then please go and get your pulse checked to ensure you are still alive!!!!

Long live Viagra and all its companions on the market.

There are other ways to get kicks - one day maybe you will learn all about them.

There are CCTV in the hallways, at the main doors, and in the elevators of VT1. Should be easy to find and interview the last person he was with, but the police doesn't bother.

Finally, a poster elsewhere claims that a TV report backs up assertions in this report. The truth being elsewhere is not a justification for a story written like this. Even if it transpires that he did have a heart attack due partly to the use of sex pills, it doesn't justify a story like this. It's fine for us all as posters to make conjecture and speculate but basic standards of journalism should be considerably higher that this, with responsibility to those reported about, and those reported to. Ask yourself, if this was a relative of yours, would you be happy with such 'reporting'?

I don't claim, I report the TV report.

I didn't think the heart attack was related to the pills, I think it was related to the sex itself.

Then I also don't think sex is a bad thing, regardless of one's sexual orientation.

I would like to see more reporting of this style in western media because maybe after some decades it would remove the taboo of sex.

If I had a relative dying in the middle of a sex session, I would be happy for him! better than to die alone in an elderly home with his children visiting every odd month.

From my limited knowledge of Viagra and its equals. You can severely lower your blood pressure by taking too much, but not enough to kill a person. Mix it with nitroglycerin and/or other nitrates and you just might be able to pull it off, because your blood pressure drop to fast, too quick and then you pass out. Viagra only dialates your arteries and veins, doctors give it to you in massive doses when you actually have a heart attack to keep your blood flowing everywhere it is supposed to.

What shoddy journalism. No proof whatsoever of an overdose of anything. Complete conjecture.

Not shoddy journalism at all. The reporter isn't claiming to have proof; he's just reporting the story, just like they do in the West. Complete conjecture is what people on ThaiVisa love. Others will be on here soon that claim to know the cause of death. I can't see anything wrong with the way this is reported. The article is very clear that the cause of death isn't know. It goes on to say that the body will be tested to find the cause of death. It's natural to speculate, based on what you know. If the report didn't saying anything about the cause of death, the reporter would be accused on here of covering up the cause. It doesn't matter what reporters say, because the expats without a life will be on here complaining. If these expats are so good, how come they don't get a job as a reporter?

If you don't like the reports, then don't come on here every day to read them. Simple.

Rather than shoddy journalism, I wouldn't even dignify this as 'journalism' (As a former UK journalist, I got tired of - when living there - defending the decency of most journalists and their commitment to the truth against sensationalist reporting that plays fast and loose with the facts. After all, most journalists in the UK do not work on the tabloids)

Firstly, the headline: 'Gay German'. What relevance is the sexual orientation of the deceased to a possible - no-one knows at this stage - death from a heart attack? The only motivation for including this is titillation of the reader - ooh gays and love drugs - and sets the tone for a story that robs someone who deserves our sympathy, like anyone who suffers an untimely demise (55 being considered untimely, nowadays) -of any respect.

Secondly, a reporter never simply 'reports' a story as the poster above claims; he shapes the story by ordering the facts, or in this case, assembling baseless speculation. Note the second paragraph, which in conventional news reporting expands the key facts of the intro. "There were no signs of a struggle, as officers found sexual potency pills and a male sex toy." This is implying a cause which is not yet known and is making an assumption. Until the post mortem is carried out and communicated, the story should be supported only by known facts i.e. the truth as we currently know it to be. And, you don't relay police speculation unless you flag this up as speculation

It is reported like it is because the readers on here love this sort of titillation. Even you are here reading and commenting on it. Just look at the number of views and comments a story like this gets. If it said man dies, cause unknown, no-one would be interested. These headlines are made for people like you, because you will read and comment, thus ensuring more profits of TV. That's what it's all about. In any case, it's reported correctly. Whether you agree or not is immaterial. You read and commented, so it worked. If you don't like these sorts of articles, then you should read something more hi-brow.
