Best Places To Buy Fishing Equipment In Bangkok?

As a fishing addict, i want to buy some new equipment from there.

But where?

I need to find somewhere like a distributor or a big tackleshop where i can find all of my needs with the best prices available.

Do you guys know somewhere like that?

BSR has a very wide selection, with lots of international names which you will be familiar with.

You will almost certainly be able to get everything you need in one place there.

However, they are more expensive than most of the other smaller places, which also usually do not have such a big selection of brand name items.

Just as an example, I recently bought a Shimano Baitrunner D from a local tackle shop in On-Nut for 5,300, compared to 6,100 on the BSR web site. No inconvenience for me though, as I live close to On-Nut and go to BSR regularly, so its easy to check and compare.

Fishing Go in rangsit is a much cheaper option than bsr...they also have most of the high end gear.

It was an 8000D. Worked well at the week-end at BSR, biggest Mekong was close to 40kg, according to some 'expert on-lookers'!

Completely off the topic, some guy landed one that was absolutely HUGE just up from me. Must have been unusual, as I couldn't get too close because of the excited observers, including many of the local regulars. It must have been close to 2m long. There were 3 adults kneeling behind it for photo's, and still the head and tail were sticking out!

It's a lot of money but you will get your monies worth via the fishing, you won't be ripped off over food and drink prices, as a one off it will be worth the money!! enjoy, your shoulders will be bigger after a days fishing!

Try and go to JJ weekend market. In the animal section, there are a few shops that sells all type of fishing gears and good prices.

Hat Hai (sp?) Fishing, 300-400 meters both directions from the On Nut BTS stop. They have twin shops, one in either direction from the BTS- 5 minute walk either way.

Gamefish Tackle shop, near Wong Wian Yai BTS stop. Best shop I have found outside of BSR. GPS 13°43'36.48"N 100°29'40.52"E Plug that into Google Earth. About a 10 minute brisk walk from BTS, but otherwise hard to describe other than GPS coordinates. It's one of 3 shops in an alley right next to Robinsons.

For a selection of fly rods, reels and line, Khlong Thom Market, around the closest corner from KFC- hang a left at the gas stove vendor and second fishing shop on the left- but you have to scrounge for the fly rods. Not a great selection, but better than nothing. First shop on the left is okay for higher end reels- but no fly stuff.

Looking forward to visiting the shop in Rangsit- too far away from BTS/MRT for me normally.

Agree, but their selection was not sufficiently greater to justify the taxi vs BTS/MRT. It is a reasonable taxi ride from BSR if you're already there. Most, if not all, of their rods were second hand (no problem for me), and their tied fly selection was extremely limited last year when I went there. Worth a trip to look around and say you've been there, but don't go there expecting to outfit yourself for a wilderness fly trip. They did have a much better selection of fly line brands, but $$$$$.

Any fly angler coming to Thailand should bring their own flies. Fortunately, you can get thousands into a tiny box that won't give you problems with excess baggage fees or customs.

Yes i agree many of these places are quite out of the way if you have to rely on public transport....same for many of the fishing parks,

I hav,nt done any tackle shopping in thailand for atleast the last 4 years, I have to travel to HK often anyway and it seems all is available there much cheaper. I sometimes arrive back here with my luggage mostly full of tackle and rod tubes full of rods and blanks,

On occasion i do go and get trim rings from bsr or call and order certain blanks and rod building accessories from fishing go...then drive or ride over and pick them up,

A few of the foreign exhibitors were complaining that products from last year had already been copied and were on display this year.

On a side note...couple of weeks ago i spent 5 days at the china fish exhibition in beijing, Was quite noticable how most the chinese companys were exhibiting copies of anything else on the market but there were some nice new innovations by foreign companys who produce tackle in china,

A few of the foreign exhibitors were complaining that products from last year had already been copied and were on display this year.

There were also at least two thai companys.

This is the first year I've missed the Beijing show since 2001. Sadly, work gets in the way of the important stuff. I recommend the show to anyone who likes fishing. From BKK, it's worth a trip to Beijing just for the show if you can afford the plane ticket.

There's always another show right before or right after the Beijing show for domestic products for the Chinese market. It is a hoot. In the past few years, it's been in Langfang, just outside of Beijing. This year, it may have been in Tianjin as they had a fishing show at the new convention center in Tianjin this year- so my Tianjin buddies told me.

If you go to Beijing any month but show time, Google "Da Chang International Fishing Tackle City". It's a wholesale market about a 20 minute taxi ride from Beijing (40 minutes by cheap bus). About 2 square blocks of nothing but fishing tackle wholesale shops. They'd prefer to take large orders for their factories, but most vendors there also sell retail, especially if you look like you're buying samples.

I actually just bought a vehicle here just so I can start fishing more. Gotta have a hobby in BKK and I don't drink, smoke, gamble or chase women so that leaves fishing...

But one question, in these shops, can i find someone who talks at least a little english? B'cuz it seems like very local shops to me. Yes i want to find local (which means cheaper) tackle shops with wide range of quality equipments. But language might be a problem, don't you think?

Unfortunately, it seems i need to go from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang Airport, probably by taxi, on 8th April Monday at 13:00.

Google earth says that it's 38,4 km between them. What can you say about the cost and how long it takes?

Lure fishing here is not much different than it is anywhere in the world where you can fish in a fish farm.

I don't know anywhere else you're pretty much assured of catching a 40+ Lb fish any day, and probably more, up to 70-100 Lb. That makes Mekong Catfishing an experience unique to Thailand, and BSR is the most famous example. (Most famous based on my random sampling of Jeremy Wade, Robson Greene and "Fishing with John" videos)

You are definitely right, especially about the Mekong. I can imagine that it will be a unique experience and i really want to live that.

But on the other hand, i also have a chance to fight with some "dream of every angler" predators like Arapaima, Giant Snakehead, Barramundi etc.

And i have only one day to fish in Bangkok.

So i need to make a decision and if it will be a day on my own, i maybe choose lure fishing and go for predators, as i don't have a chance to catch them in anywhere else either.

Not sure, really.
