Murdoch backs US-Australia league Test

February 13, 2004

Lachlan Murdoch had been a go-between to arrange a rugby league Test match between Australia and the United States in New York later this year, US league official David Niu said yesterday.

"We have had some support in that area [from Murdoch]," Niu said. "He has been involved in discussions."

Murdoch, News Corporation's deputy chief operating officer, has been a league fan since helping his father, Rupert, launch the Super League in 1995.

"The ARL has expressed interest for it to take place after the tri-series [between Britain, Australia and New Zealand in England]," said Niu, who played for St George in the early '90s.

The US team is now in Australia for trial matches.

What a waste of time....

Didn't the ARL learn in 1995 that Murdoch and Rugby League don't mix.
