Burma’s Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security is drafting a law for foreign workers, according to a report by Eleven Media. The ministry’s director general, Myo Aung, said “the country needs a strong regulation to control†foreign workers, who currently only number a few thousand. The report cites an analyst who said that the rule should be used to prevent the hiring of Chinese workers for low-skilled positions that could be filled by local workers. The new law should also aim to raise the skill levels of local workers, according to another person quoted in the report.
