Most of Nikons DSLR cameras are made in Thailand, their DX formats and the FX D600 (which is the grand daddy of messed up QC for Nikon this year).

Answer, Build a 10,000m2 factory in LAOS, to quote Nikon , "cut down the costs and to reduce the workload of its employees in Thailand."

Definite future trend IMO - Thailand is not a low-cost location for manufacturing anymore. The experience with the floods and political instability aren't helpful either.

Like the rest of the world getting out of third-world status, they've got to try to make the jump to higher value-added knowledge-based capabilities, but don't seem capable of creating the education system required to do so.
