Widening Of Beach Rd Started At North End

Well they don't have that many options the road was build many years ago and whom would have expected that it turned into a major holiday resort.

The empty land you see here and there on Beach Road are prime beach front land and is worth 10's mill bath pr rai so don't expect that a parking lot will be made there.

Hotel - condo - shopping center most likely, so more people will go there and create even more chaos, sad but true.

Unless they widen walking street or add more access roads, the beach road traffic jam will be worse, not better.

This is just an excuse to pave over the beach so the city can rent more tents to vendors (that trash the place).

Beach Road could be navigable but that would require some enforcement of parking laws, which like the jet ski problem, is never going to happen in Pattaya

How it ever evolved that motorcycle rental places could take over parking on a public road is a major part of the problem, not to mention the vendors , blocking out parking spaces since if they have the right to use the sidewalk, that right extends to the road

Widening the road will just allow another lane for double parking (just like the pedestrian crossings make crossing Beach and Second Road safer, NOT)

duh …………Have you never heard of underground multi-storey parking or even aboveground multi-storey parking ??

This could still allow for some kind of development above that? People should be made to pay an economic rent for the privilege to park their car in this area.

If they don't want to pay they can do the same as many other cities ( i.e park-and-ride ) where you park your car away from the beach area and hop on a baht bus .

They just don't get traffic, traffic control & movements & parking requirements.

Widen Beach Road so it then stacks up at the WS corner & 2nd Road lights.

i thought the word was that all the bars between Beach Road & 2nd Road were being replaced with family friendly entertainment areas.

How will the traffic cope with all these extra people, at least bar mongers walk or Songtheaw it everywhere.

i don't have an answer, that's coz I am not as smart as Pattaya City Officers....

More reasons to look elsewhere for a more relaxed environment to live

Why don't they simply prohibit parking in the left lane like they did last week during the music festival and create some dedicated parking areas for the buses to pick up tour groups ?

I have been saying that for years.

The traffic chaos on Beach Road is fixable.

Get rid of all those <deleted> rental bikes, make most of the road strictly no parking, except for designated areas where Baht buses can drop and pick up passengers, have regular police patrols to ensure Baht buses use the proper stop areas, move on tour buses and other vehicles that try to double park (or single park in no parking areas) and generally keep things moving.

If there was a will it could be done with very little cost and a bit of effort from the BIB and you would see the traffic flow transformed - even at peak times.

But it will never happen because there is much money to be made from kick backs from the bike rental Mafia and coming up with other corruption-spinning ideas like road widening, and, God Forbid - a mono rail system.....

A couple of months ago there was a monster traffic jam in the middle of the afternoon on Beach Road around Central Dept store. The cause? A load of police vehicles double parked. At first I thought it must be an 'incident' but when I finally reached the trouble spot I found there was some kind of police convention/meeting going on in the grounds in front of Central and the place was packed with cops. The multi-storey Central car park was within walking distance but no - the big wigs all had to double park on Beach Road creating a nightmare for residents and tourists alike.

It just show the utter contempt with which the that the cops and 'puyais' hold visitors to Pattaya.

Was it ever thus....?

The bike rental parking was taken care of, at least ten years ago, it was made illegal!! The problem is that the police havent been able to catch the bikes, or figure out who owns them!

I never take my truck to the beach, and even with my bike, its hard to find parking. The beach was being destroyed already, now this third lane will finish the job. The beach will only be a couple meters wide, just big enough for a jet ski to park.

I'm sure I must be wrong but looking at the work going on from the North end of Beach Road as far as Soi 2 (so far) it looks as if they are destroying the whole of the pavement area so it will end up with a road beside the beach with little or no space at all for pedestrians to walk.

I have lived/worked in Pattaya for 8 years, when I first arrived, the city had just finished re-doing the Beach Road promenade. Palm trees were planted along with nice landscaping along with the new concrete benches. As the years passed by, no maintenance was done.... the new water fountain at the end of Pattaya Klang on Beach Rd. worked for ?? two years and then the fountain ceased, never being fixed. Then everytime there was some city event,a night market full of vendors renting space from the city had to be set up on the Beach Rd walk way taking more wear and tear.

Now with the widening of Beach Rd, there will be less beach area (it is already small when the tide comes up) and the plan (according to the city) the whole Beach Road walk-way will be flattened with the removal of most of the palm trees.
The flat walk area will enable for the tents for the vendors to be placed side by side but the beauty of the walk area will be more open looking like a parking lot. And you can bet there will be no maintenace done once the project has been completed...and it will also gradually fall apart like before.

\

Beach Rd is already 3 lanes... the lane closest to the sidwalk along the shops is MOSTLY occupied with vendors, motorbikes to rent . Open that lane up.

Projects that the "city officials" plan scare me...they do not put much thought into it. Look at the crossing lights which are not obeyed and turned off on weekends; look at the fancy Dolphin street lights on Pattaya north...not all working and a safety hazard; look at how long it took to get the street widen in Jomtien... They need a "think tank" of various professsionals to think things through.

Traffic on beach road is getting worse. Hmmm.

Should we;

A- enforce parking laws and evict the illegal motorbike rental business blocking an entire lane?

B- tear out the trees and beach and pave it?

You forgot:

C- think of any idea that may vaguely address the problem but most importantly, can yield at least 10% into our own pockets.

Drastically reducing the beach walk, not that much wide to begin with, by adding an extra car lane to BR maybe a stealthy way to get rid of the coconut ladies ...

With more Central Festival-types, more Hilton-types, more Royal Gardens & Mike/Avenue types planned for Beach Rd, do the girlie dives on this stretch continue the steady hop into Soi Buakhao or maybe even Sattahip - given both sites are at the back of nowhere. The farmhands who take care of grandpa will love Sattahip - remind them of the emptiness of Esaan and Nakhon Nowhere.tongue.png Watch for a casino before 2020 on Beach Rd. Hopefully, a much needed beach & sidewalk clean-up to match the rest.

Tonight I took a walk to North Patters Beach. Construction workers are at it at night time, so looks like construction will be 24 hrs maybe. Traffic on two lanes without any parking, traffic was moving. Currently work in progress in front of Holiday Inn.

Looks like they are taking everything out from the road to the sea wall. All trees etc will be gone. That is enough for three additional lanes or maybe two with a wide sidewalk ? Looks like they are taking out alot of shade trees.

This is just my 10 min observation and your views may be different.
