Where Is Songkran Water Throwing In Bkk?

Silom Road is totally jam-packed with revellers from afternoon to late evening. (easy to reach by sky-train)

Of note is that the majority of the participants here are Thai and Asian, lots of young Asians flying in to Thailand to get part of the water action.

Most of the young farang tourists head to Khao San Road.

It doesn't happen everywhere in BKK. In fact it's one of the few places where it is well zoned...until the last (traditional) day...

The BMTA, the Tourist Police and the TAT usually produce brochures each year highlighting the main zones, which are a real boon for mealy mouthed killjoys like me so we can avoid it all...

Is Ekkamai affected or not? Thank you.

Everywhere has some idiots who get pleasure from throwing water in the faces of passing motorcyclists and others trying to go about their busines, and whilst Ekkamai is no exception to this it's not really a party zone.

As you are talking about "the action'' I assume you want to partake, as others have said Silom is packed as is the Khao San Road, nearer to Ekkamai is Soi Cowboy, the street is a water zone, you will get wet. It's actually good fun there, though you will always get some idiots who go over the top, normally foreigners who really just want to hurt people, but it packs up at a reasonable time, with the Soi getting back to its normal business.

OG,

I have heard (only on the 'grape vine' mind you) that now Cowboy and Soi 4 are in 'Police Safety Zones', coupled with the fact that there were some nasty scenes in both areas last year, both may be off the radar this year.

Personally I'll believe it when I see it....

If you want to get into Songhan "pattaya style" with other falungs then head to Khao-san Road. Around Ekkamaii and Suk 71 , and other main roads it is a lot more orderly in comparison. There are only a fewer people involved and usually it is outside the Thai Karoke bars or on the street corners where kids are throwing water in a selective way , Not everybody gets soaked especially us grumpy old falungs . It is more of a fun thing than a serious competitive crap like Pattaya and Khao-san Road. The traffic is also much lighter as a lot of people are still stuck in that traffic jam somewhere south of Korat trying to get home.

It should be done and dusted in Bangkok before the 18th, probably back to normal on the 17th, the 15th and 16th are public holidays, though the government has the habit of adding another day.
