Burma will likely see its gas exports hit US $4 billion when the fiscal year ends on Sunday, exceeding last year’s record of $3.5 billion, Eleven Myanmar newspaper reports. As of mid-March, the country’s gas exports had already surpassed $3.7 billion, the newspaper reported on Thursday, citing an official from the Ministry of Commerce. Burma’s gas exports have increased in value in recent years, up from $2 billion in the fiscal year of 2006 and $2.5 billion in 2010. The trend is expected to continue, Eleven Myanmar reported, with exports from the Shwe Gas project planned to begin in May.
