Issan Village Mp3’s

Featured Replies

Apparently the oldest running radio show is from the BBC and is called “Desert Island Disks”. On it a personality (“celeb” to the under 30’s) chooses 6 records (I told you it was old) they would take with them to a desert island. Together with the Bible, the Complete Works of Shakespeare and a book of their own choice.

I thought we could update this and give it a Thai flavour.

We could imagine the MP3’s we would take with us if we knew we would be spending the rest of our lives in a village in Issan.

Two things to remember: we would have no Internet connection (so the music would also have to replace Thaivisa) and we would not have the bus fair to visit the FC’s at the FC.

This would be my choice:

1. Beethoven’s last String Quartets

2. Mozart’s later Symphonies

3. Ave Verum by Mozart

4. The Gentle Side of John Coltrane

5. Kind of Blue – Miles Davies

6. Michael MacDonald’s two cd’s of his versions of the Motown classics.

The book I would take would be the Dhammapadha.

It's actually 8 records rather than 6 and as they're audio 'disks' they would be 'discs'. You're also allowed one luxury item.

Thank you.

My luxury item would be an automatic pedant squasher.

1. Queen in waiting CD - Aretha Franklin

2. Rinaldo - Handel

3. Symphony number 3 - Gorecki

4. Ain't that good news CD - Sam Cooke

5. Violin Concerto _ Barber

6. This is Northern Soul - Tamla compilation

7. Pearls CD - Elkie Brooks

8. Ma Vlast - Smetana

Book - The Persian Boy by Mary Renault

Luxury - a very large barrel of red wine :o

But you'd have no-one to use it on but yourself if you were stranded on a desert island.

Oh, Issan is far from a desert island - just a bit short on Coltrane, Miles and Tamla Motown.

PS. Once saw Elkie Brooks and the late Robert Palmer together in Vinegar Joe - what a great group.

I've seen her live solo. She's fabulous!

Hmm. How big is the MP3 player. Cos I could take about 175000 songs with me...

But okay,

A pink floyd album. Probably Division bells, or delicate sound of thunder

Norah jones, Feels Like Home.

David Gray, White Ladder

A mix of the recent music Lovejoy hooked me up with. (Funky, groovy stuff)

Dire Straits, either D.S, or B.i Arms.

The Three Tenors.. That famous one.

Madonna, Frozen (ray of light album)

Luxury Item : Internet connected Laptop (?) or else, I´d go probably with the lord of the rings trilogy.

Pink Floyd - Ummagumma

Neil Young - Decade

Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green - Live at the Boston Tea Party (3 volumes)

The Byrds - Untitled

Bob Dylan - Hard Rain

Can - Tago Mago

Fortunately, that'll be a decision I'll never have to make. Almost like having to pick which of your kids you'll take if you can only take one. :o
