Recommend Anti-Virus

Featured Replies

Any experts out there who could recommend a good Anti-virus program to buy? I use avast free version now with Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks.

I have AVG free version and have never had a virus problem in 8 years.

In the past I spent heaps of money subscribing to anti-virus programs and yet I still got viruses.

Two years ago I switched to the free version of AVG and have never had a problem since.

I'm no expert but AVG is great, you could always trial the paid version if you wanted to see if the benefits are worth it. I've been a fan of Advanced System care for many years now as it helps to keep my laptop running fast; they now do Advanced System Care Ultimate with an anti-virus. You can also trial that for free, I think it's effective.

Free avg would work fine - what and how you use the internet will be more the concern then the AV. Nothing can protect you from yourself.wink.png

Trend Housecall. A search will bring it up quickly. On-line anti-virus. Free. It works.

I had too many problems with AVG, especially with Firefox and also with Zone Labs firewall.

Keep Avast but download SuperAntiSpyeware free as a back up. Must update manually but gets ride of all minor crap too. thumbsup.gif

You do realise what you've started? ;)

Avast! is my personal favourite RIGHT NOW. AVG has also proved useful. Just remember that whatever you install should be reviewed periodically. Make sure you keep abreast of any changes by reading any change-logs that are offered during software (not virus database) upgrades.

Emsisoft anti malware for me ,its very good does not slow computer,

has shown very good results in anti virus tests,I have 6 licenses and

i am very happy with it.

Tried AVG free and Avast free ,they are ok but Emsisoft is better in

my opinion.

No need to buy Anti-Virus software. Use the free stuff suggested, they work just fine.

Why spend money? Use MSE. Or stick with Avast if you like that sort of thing.

MSE = Microsoft Security Essentials. This is free to download and install and works great; with no annoying pop-ups or intrusions. They don't advertise it or bundle it with Windows as it would be seen as unfair competition (like when they included IE with Windows) and would kill off the competition in an instant - as really you need nothing more...

There is no problem in downloading this so long as your current Windows updates fine without counterfeit warnings (i.e. genuine, or at least a well installed copy that updates; although, of course, I am not encouraging that - just providing info!).

Kaspersky is under B1000, gets the job done, and is one of the highest rated of them all....Saying that I use MSE now but did use Kaspersky in the past and was happy with it.

I second Kaspersky. Been using for at least 15yrs.

I second/third MSE. No viruses for years.
