New one is Terminal 21 by Asok. It's very trendy & fun, with reconstructed landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Big Ben, and other world sites. One of the biggest malls is at Siam station on the BTS: Siam Square, Siam Plaza and a couple of other Siams all side-by-side. I used to enjoy Esplanade which was near where I lived, at the Thailand Cultural Center station on the MRT. Not the biggest, but I enjoyed it a lot.

If let say I staying around the hotel like Centre Point Petchburi will it be far by walking distance to this shopping mall like Terminal 21 as you mention. Or how to take transport to go there and roughly how much?

No mention of MBK?

I hated MBK when I first went there, but it offers a lot for bargain hunters.

OP - If you head to Siam station on the BTS you'll have more than enough shopping to last you a day. You can walk to MBK (or take the other train to National Stadium), which links to SIAM SQUARE (basically a huge market with a LOT of shops mixed with stalls) or the skywalk to SIAM DISCOVERY (you can go through to either Discovery or Siam Square depending on the exit you take), the latter of which links to SIAM CENTER (which has just been renovated to some American-like fashionable monstrosity - I'm not a fan) which then will take you to SIAM PARAGON, a huge, overpriced mall for those whose tastes are a little more ostentatious (but it is a really great mall for the restaurants and Kinokuniya bookstore!). After all that, if you're still not satisfied, take the skywalk or walk along the pavement to CENTRAL WORLD - another huge, mix of expensive and reasonable shops for you to peruse, with more restaurants than you'll ever need to dine in.

Honestly, Siam is one of my favourite places to go on weekends in the city.

Terminal 21.

Don't get your hopes up too high.

Most of the shops sell the same junk you find in the markets.

Like an indoor version of Chatujak weekend market.

Pretentions junk mall.

Just another member's view of course.

maybe the Mall is something in between.

You have two choices, skytrain from Ratchathewi to Asoke, or get the boat from Pratunam to Asoke pier then walk.

I wouldnt consider walking from Petchaburi to Asoke.

Another poster has summed up Terminal 21,post #5.

The best place for shopping doesnt need to be some famous mall, right beside where you will be staying is Platinum Mall and Pratunam market, not so far away is MBK.

What do you want to buy, are you buying in bulk?

Step 1: Find & download maps of the BTS & MRT systems.

Step 2: Figure out how to get to the nearest station from your hotel. Hint: There is a MRT Petchburi station. Also, if you have the mood you could walk from Petchburi to Asok, maybe 15-20 minutes walk on a heavily trafficked road. It's only one stop on the MRT.

In each of my suggestions, I intentionally provided the name of the nearest station. It sounds like you have not yet arrived in BKK; one of the best things you can do for yourself before arriving is study the transit maps & see how to get around.

As far as "how much": From your hotel to any of the malls I mentioned your fare would be perhaps 40 baht. Taxis are a bit more & subject to horrible traffic so I would plan on riding BTS/MRT mostly, if you are here briefly as a tourist.

As rgs said, it would help if you told us what you are interested in buying. I named some "famous" malls which is what you asked, but they are not necessarily the best places to shop.

Many of the Tuk Tuk drivers on the various corners seem to have good knowledge about where you should go for shopping.

I roughly will buy clothes for my wife, kids, and myself. May be some cheap branded stuff like wallet, jeans, lingerie and etc.

Its Pratunam market for you then.

No need for some poncy overpriced mall.

I agree to a certain point, however, the interior design, is somewhat nice (and different from other malls), and might be of interest to some tourists.

Seems to be more for childish Asian tourists, who constantly hug all the items to have their pics taken with them, thus one is basically forced to look at them as well.

However, the lure of a miniature Eifel tower, or a mini London bridge, is not enough to stay in a mall for long time.

The novelty wear off very soon.

Siam Paragon is Bangkok's number 1 Shopping Mall... a high end malls with offerings from designer goods to the usual department store items.

Paragon is easy to get to and connects to the Siam BTS station.

With walkable distance from Paragon is MBK which sells pretty much everything and anything from cheap handbags and watches to electronics goods and Nikon Cameras.....

The themed aspect of terminal 21 (accessible via Asoke BTS station) can be a bit off putting but the food court is pretty amazing and the mall itself features 'local' designers selling 'local' styles. Siam Paragon (accessible via Siam BTS station) is the best mall in town with a wide variety of international shops catering to mid to high price points. Central World (accessible via Siam and Chitlom BTS stations) is similar to Siam Paragon but lacks the high end brands. Saim Discovery (accessible via Siam and National Stadium BTS stations) is more locally oriented / less expensive with similar quality to central world but generally moving a bit down the price scale. I personally dislike MBK (accessible via Siam and National Stadium BTS stations) beyond Tokyu department store (good value) but it seems popular amongst tourists and offers a particularly large selection of tablet and cell/smart phone accessories in a huge melee on the upper floors. Pratunam area shops and Platinum mall is more oriented towards lower end and wholesale clothing as is Bo Bae. If you are from a developed country you are unlikely to find any great deals locally at retail as good quality items tend to cost more here than in the West.

Beside shopping may I know where can have nice seafood ala carte dinner surrounding Platinum Mall. How to go from Don Muang Airport (DMK) Bangkok Thailand to Hotel around Platinum Mall, any transport other than taxi like MRT or Sky train.

Then you should take the time for a few hours one evening in one of the big seafood restaurants in Navamin road.

They include all kinds of food, and especially seafood, plus entertainment (live music).

Taxi is cheap cheap cheap in Bangkok, so unless your honeymoon is on a shoe string budget, use them to and from the air ports.

This way you don't have to carry your stuff too much.

Planning to stay at either Centre Point Petchburi Hotel or Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel, Which one do you think suitable for me like honeymoon? How to go to Navamin from the hotel I stay at Pratunam. I be there for 4 days 3 nite what do you recommend me to do other than shopping, like to do massage or spa any recommend? Plan to go Wat Hua Lam Phong for coffin donation. What do you think is it good or not? Baiyoke sky tower will be one of my destination to bring my wife there for buffet dinner and enjoy viewing the Bangkok scenery.

you are planning to stay at fairly big and good hotels.

They will be able to help you with all kinds of information, trips, transportation (or suggestions), etc.

Shouldn't need to mention this but watch out for pickpockets!! wherever you go. secure your money & wallets!

Of course, if you ask them something, they will want to take you there. Possibly the worst and most expensive form of transport in Bangkok.

I have stayed in Centre Point Petchburi 15 many times over the years - although not recently.

Good location in Pratunam. Serviced apartment, so the rooms are good and have kitchenette facilities, a lounge, etc.

Walking distance to Platinum mall (5 minutes) and if you don't mind a longer walk, its easy to get to Central World and on to Paragon etc.

Easiest way to get there from Don Meuang is to take a taxi and use the tollways.

I'd say that MBK is still the best one-step shopping mall, and by shopping I mean actual shopping, not just browsing.

The whole Ratchaphasong/Siam area pretty much covers it all: Central World/Paragon/MBK/Siam Discovery/Siam Center/Pantip/Platinum Mall/Pratunam

Terminal 21 food court is excellent, but I wouldn't necessarily shop there. Good for watching movies as well.

Chatuchak weekend market may be extremely popular, but it's a fire hazard, and I wouldn't recommend it, especially for families.

Petchaburi is the MRT station one stop from Sukhumvit, which is also Asok BTS station and where Terminal 21 is.It couldn't be any easier to get there!
