The OP does not mention the citizenship of the applicant. If it was a non-US citizen, the bank was looking for indicia of US person status which may not be evident if the applicant was simply presenting a non-US passport. It is possible to come under FATCA reporting requirements without being a US citizen. -

Eh, depends. I've consumed tap water at many of the higher end hotels in Bangkok (because I presume it's filtered) and will continue to do so on a contingency basis. No concerns whatsoever.- 1

Read the OP. He is using money in bank method for extension based on marriage. He is not using agent for extensions. He is dealing with CW and bankbook will not be required. Note to OP, have bb with you even though won't be required. For those with extensions based on retirement at CW your financial compliance will be checked.. -
